The Jane Kopas Women's Center believes that education leads to empowerment and change. We host many events during the year in raising awareness of issues of gender inequity affecting us on campus, nationally, and transnationally. Below are continuous programs we offer:

  • Lunch Series

Every month, JKWC hosts a lunch series. Each semester is based on a particular theme, students, staff, and faculty have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker(s) and have a free lunch. Past lunch series themes included: women and politics, women and language, becoming an activist, feminism in my field, creating a sustainable environment, etc. Guest speakers have included members of academic affairs, student activists within our community, Scranton community members, and nationally recognized scholars and activists.

In celebration of Women's Herstory Month, we dedicate the month of March in hosting events celebrating the work of women throughout history, and today creating change in their community.

  • Essay Contest

The JKWC, with the League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County, hosts an essay contest and reception during the month of month for middle and high school students within our county.
