Director of Multicultural Affairs
Dr. Paul Porter joined the University of Scranton as the Director of Multicultural Affairs in 2012. A lifelong Midwesterner, Dr. Porter comes to us from Indianapolis, Indiana where he recently worked as Director of First Year Experience and a faculty member in Communication Studies.Dr. Porter earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University. His doctoral dissertation was entitled: Multicultural Competence of Student Affairs Administrators at Member Institutions of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Dr. Porter's research engages the complexities of multicultural competence and student affairs administration in the context of religious colleges and universities. Other research interests include racial identity and perfomativity, the college experience for underrepresented groups-particularly men of color, and Critical race theory. Dr. Porter is an active member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
