Ignatian Awareness
About the Committee
The Ignatian Awareness Committee is a renewed committee this year with new initiatives and ideas. It looks to get the students involved in more activities on campus; allowing them to truly take advantage of their experiences outside of the classroom here at this fine Jesuit institution.
The Committee aspires to complete several new initiatives such as the Fall and Spring Street Sweeps and a Midnight Madness for all sports teams. For the Spring 2011 Street Sweet, it hopes to attract more than 500 students to commit themselves to a few hours of cleaning up the University community by offering prizes and incentives. While each student will receive a free t-shirt, only a few will be given prizes for most trash collected. Also, the Spring 2011 Street Sweep will be the first of the Street Sweeps to include recycling!
Another initiative that the Ignatian Awareness Committee is taking up is Midnight Madness (a giant pep rally for sports teams to exhibit school pride). Each year there is a Midnight Madness at the end of October but this year, the Committee will be organizing a second ‘Midnight Madness’-type event for the Spring with aspirations of doubling the school pride while doubling the fun! This will be a great way for students to get involved and come together as a community to celebrate their Ignatian spirit.
There is also an Ignatian Awareness Sub-Committee which is comprised of non-Student Government members of the student body. The aforementioned Sub-Committee acts as a liaison between Student Government and the student population by formulating new ideas and helping improve initiatives with fresh and innovative input.
By year’s end, both the Ignatian Awareness Committee and Sub-Committee hope to bring about positive change and growth upon the student population in terms of spirit, awareness, and love of the University of Scranton and its community.
