The Scholars Institute at Monmouth University in New Jersey

The summer of 2009 four outstandingUniversity of Scranton accounting students were selected to attend The Scholars Institute at Monmouth University in New Jersey:
Christopher Baginski and Joseph Costello, who are entering their junior year this semester,
and Melissa Marczak and Michael Losito who are entering their senior year.
Since its inception in 2002, Scholars Institute has been providing high-achieving
accounting and finance students with a competitive edge. As part of its two-day
residency program, it provides interactive programming that helps students identify their
goals and gives them the essential tools to reach them. And not only does Scholars
Institute supplement classroom education, it also provides the opportunity to make
connections with fellow students, CPAs, human-resource personnel and NJSCPA staff -
its future resources!

Some familiar sponsors for the Institute are Deloitte, Ernst & Young LLP, KPMG LLP,
and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

The Institute is a fun-filled program where the students met with other accounting
students and leading CPAs in a relaxed atmosphere. They get a jump-start on their career
and get an edge on the competition as they learn the secrets of effective communication,
the power of body language, how to put their resume ahead of the others, and more.
Topics at this year's Institute included dressing for success, resume tips, rehearsing
interview questions, networking questions, and how to dress down for work without
looking like you're headed to the beach. The final topic was on moving from college to
career, which included expert advice on the hiring process.

Students who attended the Scholarship Institute said it was truly a wonderful experience.
