CURA PERSONALIS
We will be distinctive in the formation of students in the Ignatian tradition, emphasizing discernment, excellence and service. The individual attention we provide to students and families will be reflective of a University community that manifests respect and mutual support in keeping with our Catholic and Jesuit identity.
MAGIS
Grounded in gratitude, we will commit ourselves to excellence, especially in academics and student formation, for the greater glory of God and the well-being of humankind.
REI SOLICITUDO
We will refine financial planning and management practices, cultivate the talents of our people, and invest in our campus environment in order to sustain and enhance the University we have inherited for future generations.
Moving Forward
Dear Colleagues and Friends:
As we complete the first year of our strategic plan, we celebrate the accomplishments of the 2010-11 academic year. And, as is the nature of planning (and of learning), we reflect on what more we need to know, do, and achieve.
The inauguration of our 25th president, Rev. Kevin Quinn, S.J., marks a time of transition fo our University. As Fr. Quinn observed in his inaugural address, "These are challenging times in higher education. Issues such as cost, quality, access, and accountability provide easy targets for both academic heavyweights and media talking heads...But these are also times of extraordinary opportunity to reimagine the mission of the University," communicating what makes the Scranton learning experience truly unique, positioning us to be a "21st century Jesuit university in North America."
Our Catholic and Jesuit mission informs everything we do as a University, and everything we do as a University is designed to provide Scranton students with a transformational learning experience that is second to none. As we continue to shape this experience, in support of the broad strategies of our strategic plan, our tactical plans will continue to provide focus and set goals related to the types of integrated learning experiences essential to this transformation: service, engagement, and global citizenship, all within the constructs of our Catholic, Jesuit intellectual tradition. As planners, we will continue to engage those involved in planning in environmental scanning, institutional assessment, and collaborative conversations to determine how to continue to adapt to the challenges and opportunities Fr. Quinn outlines.
I invite you to read and enjoy the information provided in the following pages, and, as always, to share your feedback and observations with us.
