When it comes to the information superhighway, all roads in northeastern Pennsylvania lead to The University of Scranton — all Internet2 roads, that is.

In 2005, The University of Scranton was named a regional aggregation point for MAGPI at University of Pennsylvania, which provides connectivity to the nation's high-speed research and education network. Through MAGPI, The University is providing Internet2 connections for colleges and universities, primary and secondary schools, libraries, hospitals, museums and research corporations in Northeastern PA.

The primary goals of Internet2 are to create leading-edge network capability for the national research community, to enable revolutionary Internet applications, and to ensure the rapid transfer of new network services and applications to the broader Internet community. Internet2 is recreating the partnership among academia, industry and government that cultivated today's Internet in its infancy.

Internet2 applications are enabling students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians to work together and interactively access resources which are vital to advancing health care around the world.

They are helping instructors develop new teaching techniques, enhancing the learning experience for students, and extending universities beyond their geographical boundaries. In addition, these applications are being used by K-12 schools to link to major universities to introduce students to fields such as international business, nanotechnology and biotechnology.
