BELOW IS A SAMPLE OF WHAT WE BROUGHT YOU IN 2012; HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS AND, OF COURSE, RECONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENT!

[2012 Sample Schedule] Welcome to Family Weekend!  We have planned activities for you and your family on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which will allow you to reconnect with your student and get a first hand look at their home away from home.

A warm welcome awaits you when you check into receive your Family Weekend pass, personalized schedule and event tickets. (Cost of registration is $20 per family, no cap on registrants.)

Welcome Reception
Scranton Welcomes You! Enjoy refreshments and meet members of our campus community at this reception in honor of Scranton parents. Scranton's Mayor, Christopher A. Doherty, will help welcome you to the City of Scranton. (Tickets required. $10.00 per person)

University Players Present : Prelude to a Kiss by Craig Lucas (tentative)
In this modern-day fantasy/fairytale, a young couple named Peter and Rita have just exchanged wedding vows, when an unknown elderly man asks to kiss the bride. As he does, Rita's soul and the old man's magically exchange bodies. When Peter discovers the truth, he confronts the old man, who now holds Rita's soul. Peter struggles with the notion that this is his young bride, and he works feverishly to put the souls back in their original bodies. At the same time, he realizes that he loves who Rita is, no matter how she is packaged.

Tickets available through Family Weekend Registration and onsite through Box Office
(Tickets required, $7 per person. Space is limited. Suitable for ages 13 and up-some adult language)

Late Night at Scranton: Family BINGO!
Spend quality time together and play bingo at this event sponsored by Late Night at Scranton. You'll love our "celebrity" callers and will have the chance to win fabulous prizes.

Royals 5K
On Saturday, September 29 at 8:00 a.m., families are welcome to join the University community in a 5K walk/run to benefit the Scranton athletic teams. Pick the team you would like to support and join the players and coaches on a 3.1 mile journey around Scranton's Nay Aug Park. This event is not included in Family Weekend pricing.  Please click here to register.  

Jostens Class Rings  See our Jostens representatives to order your University of Scranton class ring from 10:00a.m.- 4:00 p.m. in the DeNaples Center. Jostens will help you design and personalize a class ring to your specifications. Special promotional discounts are being offered at this event.

Informational Break Out Session 1

  • Scranton 201


    We introduced you to the City of Scranton with Scranton 101 at Freshman Orientation. Now, Director of Community Relations, Julie Schumacher Cohen will moderate a panel of Scranton "experts" who will tell you everything you need to know about the Electric City. You'll leave this session having learned how the University and community partner with each other, as well as practical information on where to shop, eat and discounts available on Family Weekend. Learn more about Community Relations.   
  • Science Enrichment Program

    Come see a group of current students demonstrate cool, easy and fun science experiments that they have learned from their studies at the University of Scranton.  Topics include Physics, Chemistry and Biology.  These students perform the same types of experiments for local elementary, middle and high schools in an attempt to stimulate a greater interest in science among a younger generation.  Science is fun! 

Informational Break Out Session 2

  • Career Services-A Four Year Plan & Beyond: Empowering Students to Succeed 
    Maureen Ciliberto, Outreach Specialist in the Office of Career Services, will present valuable tips and guidelines students may utilize throughout their academic experience to best prepare for their future success.  Learn about the many resources offered, as well as the integral role you play in the process. 

  • The Student Government -The Who, What & How of Student Government
    Oliver Strickland, Student Government President and Meredith Lubas, Student Government Vice President, along with other representatives of Student Government will present how both students and parents can benefit from the resources Student Government has to offer and explain the role that Student Government plays on campus.  
  • Changeology
    
Dr. John C. Norcross, Professor of Clinical Psychology and a Pennsylvania Professor of the Year, will summarize his 30 years of scientific research on self-change and New Year's resolutions. Come learn the secrets and successes of behavior change and apply them to your life. Two important lessons are that the process of change is uncannily similar across problems and that success depends on doing the right thing at the right step.  Expect a stimulating and personal lecture, as this topic applies to all of us.

Lunch is available from 10:30am through 2:00pm several locations on campus. At the retail food court on first floor of the DeNaples Center options include Quiznos, Chick-Fil-A, Zoca and Starbucks. The University’s Fresh Food Company 3rd Floor of The DeNaples Center is ready to welcome you. Join our student body and experience the wide variety of healthful options our students enjoy each day.

PINK Rugby Game
Men's Rugby Annual Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. Men's Rugby will compete in Pink Match Jerseys which are auctioned off after the match. Food and memorabilia will be sold during the game. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.  Awareness and informational tables and tents line the field during the afternoon.

Adam Birnbaum Concert
Pianist Adam Birnbaum, one of the emerging top young voices in jazz piano, will perform a concert in the Houlihan McLean Center. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information on Mr. Birnbaum click here.

Join USPB as they bring the thrills of Atlantic City to Family Weekend!  Students and their families will be given an allotment of "money" and be able to test their luck with Black Jack, Roulette, Craps, Poker, Keno, and Slot Machines.  VIP dealers include university student leaders, faculty, and staff.  Get ready to be a high roller, win big, and have your choice of great prizes!

Everything You Ever Wanted to Ask a Jesuit
Come to this session hosted by Vice President of University Ministries, Rev. Rick Malloy, S.J., Ph.D,. Using his own brand of wit, Father Rick will entertain his audience while sharing with them how the University of Scranton gets students thinking about their own spirituality and impact on the world. A light breakfast will be provided for participants.

The Fresh Food Company invites you to enjoy a traditional University of Scranton Sunday brunch. 
(Fresh Food Company can be paid for onsite by using your student’s guest swipe on their Royal ID card, or by paying in cash adults $7.85 per person, children 6-12 $3.85, under 6 free).
