Education for Justice to Host Series of Events
Thursday, Feb. 9 - Film viewing: "9/11," the documentary shot by brothers Jules and Gedeon Naudet from inside the World Trade Center. Discussion facilitated by Scranton Fire Department Deputy Chief Allen Lucas. Free and open to the public. 7 p.m. Brennan Hall, room 228.
Wednesday, Feb. 15 - Film viewing: "Saint of 9/11," the documentary of the life’s work of Fr. Mychal Judge, FDNY Chaplain and victim #0001 at the World Trade Center. Discussion facilitated by Fr. Rick Malloy, Vice President for University Mission & Ministry. Free and open to the public. 7 p.m. Brennan Hall, room 228.
Thursday, Feb. 23 - Faculty Panel. University of Scranton Professors Darryl DeMarzio (PCPS), Teresa Grettano (CAS), Rebecca Haggerty (KSOM/CAS) and Bill Lambert (PCPS) discuss Sept. 11’s impact on their teaching and fields of study. Free and open to the public. 7 p.m. DeNaples Center, room 401.
In addition, Education for Justice is sponsoring an essay/art competition for students around the theme of "Finding Justice After 9/11." The artistic medium is open, including but not limited to: posters, photographs, videos, essays, short stories, poems, paintings, or drawings. Entries may be submitted by groups or individuals. All entries should be accompanied by a 500-word narrative describing how the piece relates to the theme of “Finding Justice after 9/11.” Entries will be judged by a panel and prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place. For a more detailed description of the theme or to request a copy of the art competition entry form please contact our office. Entries are due by Friday, March 23.
Finally, we are hosting a teach-in around our annual theme on Friday, April 27. Student-led or faculty-led programs are encouraged and may be submitted by groups or individuals. If you are interested in sharing your knowledge about justice-related 9/11 issues with the University community, please contact us.

GCESO Hosts Rep Committee Meeting Feb. 17
The GCESO Representative Committee Meeting will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4-5 p.m., in O'Hara Hall, room 208. The meeting is not open to public. It is a chance for CGCE students to present their issues and ideas to the student officers. At this particular meeting, presidents from various other student organizations will be invited to attend. We will try to increase and expand student organization collaboration to make all of our events more impactful. It should be a worthwhile experience for everyone. There will be some coffee and doughnuts as well. Any inquiries can be directed to gceso@royallists.scranton.edu.

Dean of Students Announces Drop-in Hours
Dean of Students Anitra McShea, Ph.D., will hold drop-in office hours for students in the DeNaples Center, room 201, on the following dates and times. She invites all students to talk with her about any issues, ideas, concerns, or successes. She will speak with students on a first come, first served basis. Call Student Affairs at 941-7680 if you have any questions.

Recreational Sports News Update
Intramural Rosters
Intramural rosters are due to the Recreation Office on Tuesday, Feb. 7, by 9 p.m. Rosters will be accepted for men's basketball (A, B & C divisions), women's basketball (competitive and recreation), co-rec. volleyball (power and rec), co-rec. dodgeball, co-rec walleyball, doubles badminton, doubles racquetball, co-rec softball, men's and women's soccer. There is a $10 forfeit fee that must accompany your roster.
Basketball Officials Clinic
Interested in making some extra money? Students can sign-up to be an intramural basketball official and be trained on Sunday, Feb. 12, between 4 and 8 p.m. by a certified official. Intramural games will start in two weeks! For more information, stop in the Recreation Office or call ext. 6203.
Summer Travel Course to Asia & Info Session
Students can earn up to six credit hours for this 25-days travel course (three in philosophy and three in Chinese language). Both courses fulfill GE requirements (as philosophy elective or as humanity-language). The travel course also provides 10-hours of service learning opportunity. Both courses also fulfill Asian Studies program requirements. Scholarship and financial aid are available to offset the travel cost.
The cost of the study trip is approximately $2,999, which includes the round trip international airfare and airport transportation, 25-days accommodation, some meals, 6 field trips/cultural excursions (including a visit to tea plantation, tea ceremony, national palace museum, Confucius temple, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, and a Zen monastery), museum entrance fees, Internet access, four cultural lessons (Chinese medicine, calligraphy/painting, seal cutting, & Chinese cuisine), one-on-one student buddy system with a Fu Jen Catholic University students.
Application packages can be picked up at the information session on Feb. 8, from Ann Pang-White, Ph.D., at Loyola Science Center, room 271, or Philosophy Department secretary Mary Rafter at Loyola Science Center, room 235. If you have any questions about the course, please email ann.pang-white@scranton.edu. Application deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 22.
The 1-credit discount summer tuition rate of $753 (for the 3-credit philosophy course) or/and $300 (for the 3-credit Chinese language course) plus $40 mandatory health/travel insurance will be charged by the Bursar's Office separately from the travel cost. Scholarship and financial aid can apply to this course(s). This travel course is co-sponsored by the Philosophy Department and the Department of World Languages and Cultures, in partnership with Fu Jen Catholic University (one of our sister universities in Taipei, Taiwan).
Opportunities for Service Hours
Hosts Needed for Royal Nights
The Royal Nights students will arrive on a Sunday between 3 - 4:30 p.m. and participate in planned activities that evening. They will stay overnight with a student host, and on Monday, they will attend classes and depart late in the afternoon. We are looking for current students who live on campus to host the Royal Nights guests in their rooms. Hosts meet students when they arrive on Sunday afternoon, have the option to participate in the different activities that evening, provide sleeping space, and help the Royal Night students checkout on Monday afternoon.
