University of Success Accepting Applications

The University of Scranton’s University of Success, a multi-year, pre-college program for high school students designed to develop the skills needed to successfully gain entrance to college, is currently accepting applications for the 2012 school year. Applicants must currently be enrolled in the eighth grade and possess a strong desire to attend college in the future. To read the full release, click here.

Scranton Finishes Ninth at National Cheer Competition

The University of Scranton Cheerleaders finished ninth in the country for Division II and III All Girl squads at the 2012 College Cheerleading National Championship. The competition took place Friday, Jan. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 15, at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Sponsored by Universal Cheer Association and Universal Dance Association, cheerleaders and dance teams from Division I, II and III colleges and universities from across the country participate in the national competition. College cheerleaders compete in Division I or Division II and III; co-ed or all girl squad categories.

This is the second time in the past three years that Scranton's cheerleaders made it to the final round of competition at nationals. The squad finished seventh in 2010. The 2012 College Cheerleading National Championship performances can be seen here (Search "Scranton").

Spring 2011 Dean's List Additions

Program Submissions for IGNITE Leadership Conference

The Center for Student Engagement is hosting its annual leadership conference on Saturday, Feb. 18. This year, the office is excited to announce new and innovative changes to this conference.

The IGNITE – Student Leadership Conference (formerly known as the Royal Leadership Conference) will be open to University leadership programs across the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. These schools will be invited to participate in IGNITE, in order to develop new skill sets and discover their potential as student leaders along with The University of Scranton students.

The office is currently accepting Call for Program submissions from students, faculty and staff from our University community. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about bringing their leadership topic of interest to students across the region. Program proposals are due Friday, Jan. 20. Financial Aid Workshop For Prospective Students Tonight

The University of Scranton will conduct a financial aid workshop for prospective students and their parents on Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center. The workshop will be presented by William Burke, director of financial aid at The University of Scranton, and will include a review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and details regarding the Jesuit university’s academic scholarship and need-based assistance programs. Each year, The University of Scranton awards approximately $19 million in institutional assistance to approximately 1,200 local students. Catering Department Hosts Open House Friday

The University of Scranton's Catering Department will host an open house and sampling on Friday, Jan. 20, from 3:30 until 5 p.m., in the DeNaples Center, room 407.

Learn to Make Great Pasta Wednesday

Join Chef Jerry Bogdan on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and learn how to make fresh pasta and get a taste! The event, which will be held at two convenient times, 12:05-12:45 p.m. and 1:05-1:45 p.m., will be held in the DeNaples Center, ballroom A. 

Ten wellness participation points toward the $50 participation pillar for staff and faculty. No reservations needed. For more information, contact mascellic2@scranton.edu or 941-4550.

Fourth Annual Fitness Challenge Set

The fourth annual fitness challenge, a four-week team competition for students, faculty and staff to promote a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, begins soon. There will be free T-shirts to all participants and prizes to top finishers. In addition, faculty/staff can earn points towards the body pillar. Register before Friday, Feb. 3, at the Center for Health Education & Wellness, DeNaples Center, room 205K or online at www.scranton.edu/chew.
