December 20, 2011: Student News

Hosts Needed for Royal Nights

The Admissions Office needs hosts for the upcoming Royal Nights program. Royal Nights allows accepted high school seniors to experience life as a Scranton student, and get the feel of our campus community.

The Royal Nights students will arrive on a Sunday between 3 - 4:30 p.m. and participate in planned activities that evening. They will stay overnight with a student host, and on Monday, they will attend classes and depart late in the afternoon. We are looking for current students who live on campus to host the Royal Nights guests in their rooms. Hosts meet students when they arrive on Sunday afternoon, have the option to participate in the different activities that evening, provide sleeping space, and help the Royal Night students checkout on Monday afternoon.

Please consider this opportunity to show your Scranton pride. Plus, you will receive two free movie tickets for each weekend you host!

Royal Nights Dates:
Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 - Monday, Feb. 13, 2012
Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 - Monday, Feb. 20, 2012
Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 - Monday, Feb. 27, 2012

Please sign up to be a host here.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Arnold, admissions counselor, at arnolda2@scranton.edu.

Intersession On-Campus Housing Information

Intersession housing for on-campus students check-in is on Monday, Jan. 2, at noon. Only students registered for an intersession class or who have made requests earlier and been approved will be permitted to stay in the residence halls. Students registered for class are automatically assigned to Intersession housing and must contact Residence Life if they would like to change their status to commuter, if their course is not taught at Scranton or they have dropped their class.

Although there is no charge for housing, all students living in freshmen or sophomore buildings are required to maintain a dining plan if they are residing on campus during intersession. All residents with a dining plan can make an online request through UIS to decrease their plan for intersession. Residents who live in the on-campus houses or apartments can request to remove their dining plan during intersession as they are not mandated to have one during the academic year.

If a faculty or staff member has a resident student working for them during Intersession, the faculty or staff member must email Residence Life to make a request for housing.  The student's name, Royal ID and reason for housing need must be included. The deadline for these requests is Thursday, Dec. 22.

Please contact Residence Life at res-life@scranton.edu or 570-941-6226 with any questions.
