Brass Orchestra to Perform in January
Performance Music at The University of Scranton presents the Scranton
Brass Orchestra with Cheryl Y. Boga and Mark Gould, conductors, and Chris
Jaudes and Joseph Boga, guest trumpet soloists, on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. The concern will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan-McLean Center. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call 941-7624. SIFE Hosts ‘Cookie College’ for Girl Scouts
The University of Scranton Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is hosting “Cookie College” for Girl Scouts in the Northeast Region of Pennsylvania. At “Cookie College,” representatives from The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center and local business owners will talk about important business skills, such as money management, goal setting, decision making, people skills and business ethics. “Cookie College” will be held on Jan. 7, 2012, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony.
The speakers will teach the girl scouts how to apply essential business skills to the “Girl Scouts Cookie Program.” According to www.girlscouts.org, the “Girl Scouts Cookie Program” is the largest girl-led business in the country. The “Girl Scouts Cookie Program” helps Girls Scouts of the USA realize their full potential by building skills that will help them become “strong, confident and resourceful citizens.”
After listening to the speakers’ presentations, the Girls Scouts will come up with business plans and set “Cookie Goals” for their local chapter.

Professor Zalon Featured in Nursing Magazine
Margarete L. Zalon, Ph.D., professor of nursing at Scranton, was recently the subject of an article that appeared in September-October 2011 issue of The American Nurse, which is the official publication of the American Nurses Association. The article discusses Professor Zalon's accomplishments during her term as the chairperson of the American Nurses Foundation board of trustees. To read more, click here. What better way to bring Scranton home this holiday season than with
a Monopoly game customized for the Electric City? A new game called
"Scranton-opoly" features The University of Scranton along with other
Scranton institutions and businesses. The game was developed by economic
development agency, Scranton Tomorrow, and One Point office supply company. Scranton-opoly is now available for $20 in
the University’s bookstore and through the University’s portal on www.efollett.com.
