Crockpot Cooking Offered Thursday

Join chef Patti Brown and learn how to make delicious crockpot meals on Thursday, Nov. 17. You can taste them and even enroll in her crockpot recipe of the week club. There are two convenient sessions offered from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. or 1:05 to 1:50 p.m. in the Moskowitz Theater (room 401) of the DeNaples Center. No reservations required. Attendees will receive 10 wellness points toward the $50 participation pillar. For more information, contact Employee Wellness at mascellic2@scranton.edu or ext. 4550.

Tools for Tablets Set for Wednesday

During "Tools for Tablets: Apps, Sites, and Widgets for Tablet Computers," a Technology On Your Own Terms workshop, librarian Sheli McHugh will discuss programs that will enhance your use of personal tablets, like the iPad, so that you can get the most out of these devices. We will look at file storage options, word-processing programs, as well as social networks and e-reader applications. The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Weinberg Memorial Library, room 305.

A light lunch will be provided during the discussion. All faculty and staff members are welcome, but seats are limited, so please register at www.scranton.edu/ctleregistration (under Technology On Your Own Terms).

"Using Academic Journals as Models for Student Writing"

As academics, we write papers and submit them to journals. Then they are read by colleagues and vetted for accuracy and presentation. The papers are only published if they convince the referees and the editor that the results are correct, interesting and novel. The technique we shall describe is one we used in upper division courses that helped students develop both their reading and writing skills without sacrificing time dedicated to the subject. Long Center Weight Room Is Open

The Long Center weight room is again open for faculty and staff. In addition to the free weights, many of the cardio machines that were previously housed in the Murray Royals Room are now available in the back room of the Long Center weight room. All cardio machines are functioning properly. Additionally, EXSC students are present during the open times to assist faculty and staff with their exercise program. The weight room is open to faculty and staff only, Monday through Friday, noon to 1 p.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Volunteers Needed for Christmas Day Breakfast

The Community Outreach Office and The Fresh Food Company will be working together once again to bring our third annual Community Christmas Day Breakfast to the Scranton community. We are seeking faculty and staff volunteers to assist on Christmas Day from 7:45 a.m. to 11 a.m., on DeNaples Center's third floor. While this event is open to all to attend, we are asking that volunteers be University employees and their families only. As the event grows each year, we are seeking volunteers to act as committee chairs for:

table decorations
holiday cards
coat donations
toys
advertising to community churches, newspaper, etc

Essential Training for New Staff

The Office of Equity and Diversity invites all staff hired within the last two years to attend essential Sexual Harassment Prevention Training. Training sessions have been scheduled for the following dates:

Tuesday, Nov. 15
Thursday, Nov. 17
Thursday, Dec. 1
Thursday, Dec. 8

All sessions are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. in Brennan Hall, room 500. A light lunch will be served. Managers are urged to remind their staff to schedule to attend. Separate sessions will be held for managers and supervisors. To schedule your session, email diversity@scranton.edu.
