University’s Race for Cure Team Raises $5,000

Once again, we are proud to announce that The University of Scranton’s Race for Cure Team won the Largest School Team Award with 225 students, faculty, staff, family and friends participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Sept. 10. The race raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. The University of Scranton team raised more than $5,000.

Cadet Daniel Pati, a sophomore student in the University's ROTC program, finished in fifth place overall. Students from the women's basketball team, women’s softball team and the Student Nurse Association also participated in this year’s event.

This year’s race coincided with the University's Celebration of Service and a few of our staff and students volunteered to fold University of Scranton team T-shirts, which were provided by the Office of Human Resources Department. Participants gathered prior to the race on Dionne Campus Green for a team photo. Race for the Cure committee members included Lynn Gavin, accounts payable, Betsy Moylan, Weinberg Memorial Library, and Eileen Notarianni, human resources.

Many thanks to Aramark which provided refreshments on the DeNaples Center patio and to all who contributed in making The University of Scranton Race for the Cure team a winner and for helping our community fight against breast cancer.
