On Sunday, Oct. 9, 10 cadets and three cadre members from the Royal Warrior Battalion took part in the 27th Annual Army Ten-Miler through the streets of Washington, D.C. The 10-mile run starts and ends at the Pentagon, winding its way through downtown Washington with more than 37,000 military and civilian personnel, as well as a number of Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, taking part in the race.

Representing the Royal Warrior Battalion in the race this year were University of Scranton Cadets Jenna Caserta, Sidney Jaques, Christina Bayard, Sean Kuluga, Christian Burne, Daniel Pati, Alexander Flynn, Sean McKee, as well as Cadre Members Master Sergeant Alexander Ortega, Captain Erin Leach and Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Remley. Rounding out the team were Marywood University students Andrew Wycheck and Ian Poshka. The Royal Warrior Battalion was just one of 58 Army ROTC programs to take part in the race this year.

The team departed Scranton on Friday afternoon for Washington D.C., and enjoyed a team dinner later that evening. Saturday was spent touring the sites of Washington followed by one more team dinner and then an early lights out to be ready for Sunday’s race. Among the top finishers for the Royal Warrior Battalion were Cadets Daniel Pati and Christian Burne. Master Ortega led the way for the cadre.

The team began training for the event right after the Labor Day, coming together every Tuesday morning for long-distance runs as both a team and as buddy teams. The capstone training event took place on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when the team completed 10.7 mile run around Lake Scranton.
