    • Orientation Reunion
      More than 130 “Purple People” and their guests returned to campus on Sept. 17 for a reunion of Orientation Staff Alumni. The group enjoyed the opportunity to explore campus, reconnect with friends and meet current students.

      University Inaugurates Kevin P. Quinn, S.J.
      In a celebration of The University of Scranton’s tradition and accomplishments, as well as its future as a leading Jesuit university in the 21st century, the University conducted its Inauguration Ceremony for its 25th president, Kevin P. Quinn, S.J. Delegates representing nearly 100 colleges, universities and learned societies from across the country joined nearly 2,000 dignitaries, students, faculty, staff and community members for the ceremony held Friday, Sept. 16, in the Byron Recreation Complex on campus.       DC Law Day
      Plans are under way for  “DC Law Day”, schedule for Thursday, Oct. 27. The Council of Alumni Lawyers and the Pre-Law Society are planning the event to connect alumni lawyers in the Washington, D.C., area with current pre-law students.

      Alumni Memorial Mass
      The University of Scranton will hold a special Alumni Memorial Mass on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 p.m. in Madonna della Strada Chapel. University President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., will serve as celebrant.

      This annual tradition brings students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends together as a faith community to pray for our alumni, members of the University community and their family and friends who have died. We will remember in a special way those who passed away this year. All our welcome.

      For the first time since 2001, the University of Scranton men’s basketball team will compete against a Division I opponent when they play against St. Joseph’s University.

      Robert Schatz ’80, New York, N.Y., has announced the following: Two of his paintings are featured as cover art for Providence, the debut album by the band Vovete; his painting Cortlandt St. Cloude will be included in the group show 9/11 Arts: A Decade Later at The Commons Gallery, NYU; his painting Odalisque will be included in the exhibit Dividing Light, Measuring Darkness at Curious Matter, Jersey City.

      Myles Walsh ’81,
      Scranton, has been re-elected to the eight man Board of Directors of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, Northeast Chapter.

      Jeffrey Catalano ’90, West Roxbury, Mass., has been elected vice president of the Massachusetts Bar Association for its 2011-2012 year.

      Brian Cook G'06 recently joined King's College as a college counselor. He provides individual and group counseling of students and consults with faculty and staff on student-related issues.
