With a full slate of events scheduled, the University's Family Weekend kicks off with a welcome reception on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
More than 2,000 friends and family members of University of Scranton students have registered to attend Family Weekend, which will take place Friday, Sept. 30, to Sunday, Oct. 2. The weekend is designed to allow students to reconnect with family while introducing them to the Scranton community.

The weekend full of scheduled activities will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a welcome reception. Scranton’s Mayor Christopher A. Doherty and University President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., will be in attendance to help welcome families to the University and city. Other events slated for Friday evening include a performance of “Wait Until Dark” by Frederick Knott, presented by The University of Scranton Players, and family bingo.

Numerous Scranton area restaurants are providing discounts to help welcome Family Weekend.

Various activities are planned on campus Saturday include tours of both the new Loyola Science Center and apartment complex on Mulberry Street, the Fall Harvest and Student Activities Fair on the Dionne Campus Green, a luncheon and even several classes taught by University faculty members. Guests can also attend sporting events, a concert and a family-friendly movie.

Family Weekend will conclude on Sunday with “Everything You Ever Wanted to Ask a Jesuit,” a session hosted by Vice President of University Ministries Rev. Rick Malloy, S.J. Father Malloy will discuss how The University of Scranton interests students to think about their own spirituality and impact on the world. A traditional brunch will also be served on Sunday by the Fresh Food Company at the DeNaples Center.
