Military Science Department Participates In Sept. 11 Memorial

Cadet Command Sergeant Major Joshua Soto and the Royal Warrior Battalion Color Guard post the National Colors during a Sept. 11 memorial service at McDade Park in Scranton.

Master Sergeant Alexander Ortega (left) and Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Remley prepare to help lay a wreath at the ceremony.
Joining local police, fire, veterans' organizations and county officials, the Royal Warrior Battalion provided the color guard for the ceremony. Under the command of senior Cadet Joshua Soto, the color guard marked the start of the event by posting the National Colors. Among the speakers were U.S. Senator Robert Casey, a former New York City fireman, as well as a former New York City policeman. Led by senior Cadet Evan Dimakas, more than 50 cadets provided a battalion formation at the ceremony to represent both Army ROTC and the United States Army as a whole.
Following the unveiling of the county’s new monument to the 9/11 tragedy, the Military Science Department’s Master Sergeant Alexander Ortega, senior military instructor, and Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Remley, professor of Military Science, assisted local officials, including Senator Casey and Charles Spano of the Lackawanna County 9/11 Memorial Committee, in placing a wreath at the base of the memorial to mark the official dedication.
“I am especially grateful to Mr. Charlie Spano of the Lackawanna 9/11 Memorial Committee for extending an invite to our battalion to participate in this very important event,” remarked LTC Remley.
