Connect with the University on Social Media

As things ramp up in the new school year, make sure you follow the University on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare to stay up-to-date on news and events.
Our Facebook community, facebook.com/universityofscranton, is more than 10,400 members strong and is a great place to engage with other students and alumni as we discuss all things Scranton.

You can also find us on Twitter - twitter.com/univofscranton – so if you prefer to tweet you can connect with us there!

Another fun way to engage with the Scranton community is on Foursquare, foursquare.com/univofscranton, where we share tips about all the venues on campus and where you also can find lists of things to do and specials from not only campus clubs and organizations, but also from the restaurants, stores and entertainment venues in downtown Scranton.

Here's your first tip: Get up to speed on Foursquare now and you'll have the edge during the Scavenger Hunt next weekend - http://on.fb.me/pVTqWz.

If you like to watch videos, check out our YouTube channel - youtube.com/universityofscranton. And for photos, visit flickr.com/photos/universityofscranton.

Update Info For Notifications of Delays, Emergencies

Each semester, University of Scranton faculty, staff and students are asked to verify and update their contact information in order to receive notices of emergencies, school closings or delays via email, text and phone messages. The capacity to communicate in several ways increases the effectiveness and timely delivery of alerts and gives faculty, staff and students greater flexibility in how they wish to be notified. For instance, most cellphone carriers give priority to voice message delivery over SMS text messages. To read the full release, click here.

Welcome Weekend and Move-In for Class of 2015

The University welcomed its largest freshmen class in its history this past weekend. Of the 1034 members of the Class of 2015, 940 plan to live in the dorms. Saturday’s Move-In Weekend presented not only the challenge of moving in this record number, but combatting with the harsh weather courtesy of Hurricane Irene. Upperclassmen were permitted to return on Saturday as well. Despite the weather, the formal induction of the Class of 2015 into the Scranton academic community at the New Student Convocation was held as scheduled. Video of the convocation may be viewed on YouTube.

Also check out the Center for Student Engagement's photographs from Move-In Day!

We invite local agencies to come to campus to recruit volunteers for their programs in areas such as health and hospice care, children and youth, elderly, social justice, food and housing programs, and hands-on projects. Student volunteers get the opportunity to meet directly with agency representatives and find out what types of service opportunities are available in the Scranton community, time commitments, and information about service learning. Each year the fair is attended by over 70 agencies and 750 students.

The date of the next Volunteer and Service Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Rev. Bernard R. McIlhenny, S.J., Ballroom of the DeNaples Center, fourth floor. For more information on the Volunteer and Service Fair, contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu.
