Time to Register for United Way Day of Caring

Hello, it’s time to register for this year's United Way Day of Caring! This volunteer event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 1. The University has been asked to participate once again and we encourage you to join our efforts.

Some of the Day of Caring volunteer projects include landscaping, painting, cleaning and light maintenance. There is also a need for direct client interaction. For example, assisting residents of the Mountain View Care Center at their annual picnic held at McDade Park. A list of the agencies participating this year will be available in our office soon. All of these tasks benefit local organizations in our community, which is especially significant this year when so many agencies have been affected by budget reductions.

You may request to be assigned to a particular agency/location or request to be assigned with a friend or co-worker. Volunteers can devote either a full or half day to the project subject to supervisory approval. This time will be considered “Mission Leave” and participants will not be charged with vacation time. I will forward a Mission Leave Request form for you to have signed by your supervisor when you register. Please note that the deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 19. Please respond to Eileen Notarianni via email (notariannie2@scranton.edu) or by calling ext. 7767.

All participants will receive a “LIVE UNITED” T-shirt which you are encouraged to wear on the day of the event. You are asked to report to your assigned location between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Please feel free to email Eileen with any questions you may have and thank you in advance for your participation.
