Legacy of Scranton Alumnus Continues Through Donation

The circle of life has come back to The University of Scranton with a $1 million donation originated by the untimely death of a 23-year-old University graduate and the perseverance of his family.

A biology major at Scranton, David Alan D’Agostino ’81 was captivated by medicine and science. After learning of the advances in tissue transplantation through a lecture he attended at the recommendation of his professor Charles J. Thoman, Ph.D., David shared with his father, Edward A. ’62, and his mother, Evelyn, his wish to one day become an organ and tissue donor. To view the entire press release, click here.

Volunteer and Service Fair Slated for Sept. 13

The Community Outreach Office hosts a Volunteer and Service Fair each September. We invite local agencies to come to campus to recruit volunteers for their programs in areas such as health and hospice care, children and youth, elderly, social justice, food and housing programs, and hands-on projects. Student volunteers get the opportunity to meet directly with agency representatives and find out what types of service opportunities are available in the Scranton community, time commitments, and information about service learning. Each year the fair is attended by over 70 agencies and 750 students.

The date of the next Volunteer and Service Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Rev. Bernard R. McIlhenny, S.J., Ballroom of the DeNaples Center, fourth floor. For more information on the Volunteer and Service Fair, contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu.
