University to Form 'Race for the Cure' Team

The University of Scranton will be forming a team again this year to participate in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to be held in Scranton on Saturday, Sept. 10. All faculty, staff, students, clubs, organizations, dorms, sport teams and everyone's family and friends are welcome to join us. We had more than 280 people on our team last year and we are hoping to match or surpass that number this year.

Registration is now open so follow the instructions below:

On the right side: Click on (this is very important) Join an existing team"
Team Name: Type in University of Scranton
Select a Team Type: Click down arrow & choose School/University
Company/Corporate Name: Click down arrow & choose University of Scranton Click on Search for a Team
Scroll to bottom of page and you will see University of Scranton and to the right click on Join.
Fill in all of your information. It is very important to fill in your T-shirt size because this is where I will get your size for your "Team T-Shirt." Deadline to register for our team is Thursday, Sept. 8. Please help us to spread the word and email this to anyone you know who might be interested in participating.

IT Systems Downtime Notice

A migration of the University’s enterprise database and related IT systems to a new hardware/operating system platform is scheduled from 4 p.m. July 28, 2011, through 8:30 a.m. Aug. 2, 2011. This migration will affect the availability of my.scranton.edu, as well as all Banner-related systems, departmental applications found on the Employee Applications tab and many other systems accessed via the my.Scranton portal, including Royal Drive. For a complete list of systems that will, and will not, be available, go to http://www.scranton.edu/myscranton.

Departments should have contingency plans ready in case the restart of the enterprise IT systems is delayed. Notice(s) of system availability will be provided via the Personal Announcements channel on my.scranton.edu, beginning on Aug. 2.

Please do not attempt to use any part of my.scranton.edu prior to Aug. 2.

Following the migration, problems should be reported to the Technology Support Center at 941-4357 or techsupport@scranton.edu. This will assist us in prioritizing and focusing on the problems of highest importance. Please do not contact individual IT departments’ staff directly with problems.

Seeking Fall Welcome 2011 Volunteers

The Center for Student Engagement (formerly Student Activities & Orientation) is looking for volunteers to help with Fall Welcome 2011. We are looking for volunteers to help staff information tents and hand out water to families on move in day, Saturday, Aug. 27. Below are the available shifts and locations. Please indicate if you would like to work multiple shifts. Please also let me know your preference:

Parking Pavilion To Be Closed Through Aug. 1

The Parking Pavilion will be closed from Monday, July 18, 2011, until Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, for maintenance work. Please plan accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.

Volunteer Organizations Needed for Fair

Do you know of a nonprofit organization that is in need of college-age volunteers? The Community Outreach Office is hosting its annual Volunteer and Service Fair on Tuesday Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the DeNaples Center's ballroom. Last year the fair was attended by more than 850 students looking for find a volunteer placement in the Scranton community.

Nonprofits can contact the Community Outreach Office at judgee2@scranton.edu to receive an invitation in August. Please be mindful of the University calendar when requesting volunteers.

Our students volunteers must work through a agency and may not go into private homes for safety and liability reasons.

St. Joseph's Festival July 29-31 at Marywood University

St. Joseph’s Summer Festival, affectionately billed as the biggest backyard picnic in Northeastern Pennsylvania, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
