EFFORT Needs Summer Volunteers

EFFORT is a small organization comprised of students from The University of Scranton working in conjunction with the Community Outreach Office. EFFORT, or “Excess Food For Others Recovery Team,” is attempting to begin a movement against hunger and for poverty awareness, both on our campus and in the surrounding area. Our purpose is to build relationships with Scranton students and dining services, companies, and corporations in the attempt to salvage leftover food and donate it to those in need in the Scranton community. By valuing justice and solidarity among all people, our hope is to create social change for the benefit of our neighbors in need. Visit our website under the Community Outreach Office.

EFFORT is seeking student volunteers who will be in Scranton over the summer months to help pick up food at Panera at the Shoppes at Montage Mondays and Panera in Dickson City Thursdays at 9 p.m.; along with Price Chopper in Taylor on Fridays at 8 a.m. Food will then be delivered to local food pantries.

A driver's license is necessary along with a willingness to be certified to drive a University of Scranton vehicle. Please contact Kathleen Lavelle at effortteam@gmail.com to sign up or get more information.
