New University Calendar Goes Live July 5

On Tuesday, July 5, the University will replace the current master calendar, WebEvent, with a new, more versatile calendar. Our new master calendar, powered by Helios, will offer features our current calendar does not have, including a variety of tools that visitors can use to share and save events with an array of social media and personal calendar services. The Helios calendar also has easy to use features for publishing, RSVP option, event promotion and community building tools.

Students, faculty and staff will be able to submit events for publishing to the new master calendar. Each submission will be reviewed and an email message sent indicating the event has been posted or requesting additional information about the event.

The timeline for the new calendar is:

June 27
  • The WebEvent calendar will be disabled to allow our IT services to import all the events that are currently in WebEvent to the new Helios calendar.  As of this date new entries will need to wait until the new calendar goes live (July 5).
June 28 – July 1
  • Events already in the system will be reviewed and CMS pages that had specific calendars linked to them will be replaced with RSS feeds to specific categories in the new Helios calendar.
July 5
  • Target date for Helios calendar to go live.

Categories that make up the calendar are:
Academic, Admissions, Alumni, Announcement, Athletics, CHEW, Conference, Cultural, Employee Wellness, Faculty/Staff, General, Holiday, Information Session, Lecture, Liturgy, Meeting, Non-University Event, Open to the Public, Reception/Social, Seminar/Workshop, Service/Community, Student Activities, University Ministries.

The instructions to add and edit an event on the new Helios calendar can be found here. The link to the new calendar will become available on July 5 is http://calendar.scranton.edu.
