Record Number of Master's Degrees Conferred

On Saturday, May 28, The University of Scranton conferred 46 doctoral degrees in physical therapy and 700 master’s degrees, both of which are records for the University, at its post-baccalaureate commencement ceremony in the Byron Recreation Complex on campus. To view the full release, click here.

Doors Open for Scranton’s Goldwater Scholars

In the rarefied world of university scholarship there are three kinds of students: smart, really smart and Goldwater scholars. Maria Gubbiotti and Melissa Wasilewski are Goldwater scholars, the premier undergraduate scholarship program for students studying mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Both are local students and are members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2011.

Rev. Pilarz Lectures at PNC Breakfast Event

Students Advance to Integration Bee Finals

The University of Scranton’s Mathematics Department held its fourth annual Integration Bee recently on campus for high school and college students. Nearly 40 Nations Represented at Diversity Festival

Chinese Opera Celebrated in Scranton

Nearly 1,800 area residents attended a free, public performance of “Bond,” an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice,” by the Taiwan BangZi Opera Company at the Scranton Cultural Center. To view the entire press release, including a photograph, click here.

First Friday Scranton Art Walk June 3
First Friday art walks are held on the first Friday of every month at galleries and businesses around Downtown Scranton. Paintings, photography, sculpture, music, performance art…you never know what you’ll find at First Friday in Scranton.

Support local artists and mingle with your Northeastern Pennsylvania neighbors, all in a casual atmosphere, this Friday, June 3.

Lackawanna Historical Society Kick-Off Downtown Walking Tour June 3

The Official Kick-off Tour of the LHS Summer downtown walking tour series: "Look Out, Look Up, We're Out and About!" will take place on June 3 at 5 p.m. It will begin in front of Lackawanna College at Washington Avenue and Vine Street and will take participants on a five-block journey through the downtown. It runs about an hour and a half, taking participants down Washington Avenue and around the Courthouse Square to discuss Lackawanna County history with special focus on Education, Culture, Socialization, and Government. Arts on Fire Festival at Scranton Iron Furnaces June 3-4

The Arts on Fire Festival is a celebration of local Scranton history and the arts. The festival features artists, food vendors, live music, children's activities, historical displays, local organizations and a live iron pour demonstration.  For more information, visit the festival website.
