    • Tell the Class of 2011 What Life is Like “Beyond the Commons”

      Piloted in the fall, the Beyond the Commons dinner series has given nearly 100 seniors an opportunity to dine with alumni and enjoy casual conversation about graduating, working, moving, and more. If you would like to have dinner with a group of seniors to exchange Scranton stories, volunteer now to be an alumni co-host at a Beyond the Commons dinner. 

      Medical Alumni Symposium
      The Face of American Healthcare: 2011

      This year's symposium focuses on the State of the American Health System in 2011 and will feature presentations on a variety of related topics by distinguished University alumni and friends.  The day will conclude with a special tour of the new unified science center, which is still under construction.

      Scranton Day of Service: Royals Give Back

      On Saturday, April 16, Royals everywhere will roll up their sleeves to show what “men and women for others” really means. Large groups. Small groups. Families. Individuals. Alumni and students will be sweeping streets, preparing and delivering meals, painting and sharing the Scranton spirit as part of the second Scranton Day of Service. To read more, click here.

      50-year Class to Participate in Commencement Exercises 

      On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of their graduation, members of the Class of 1961 are invited to join in the long-standing tradition of marching as delegates in the academic procession of the annual undergraduate Commencement Exercises scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2011.

      The University of Scranton Norsemen Alumni and friends Golf Outing is scheduled at Blue Ridge Trail golf course in Mountaintop. Be there at 12:15 p.m. or earlier for a 1 p.m. start. Dinner to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the DeNaples Center on campus. Cost is $75 for golf ($38 goes to the University rugby team) and $50 for dinner,which includes 2 hours of open bar ($23 goes to the University rugby team)

      The contributions of the late Peter A. Carlesimo, a longtime University coach and athletic director, will be formally recognized at the Royals Annual Award Dinner on Friday, May 6, beginning at 6 p.m. in the William J. Byron, S.J., Recreation Complex. Carlesimo’s son, P.J., a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and a highly-successful coach on the collegiate and professional level for more than three decades, will deliver the keynote address.

      Joseph M. Cardamone, M.D., FACP ’59, Minnetonka, Minn., received the 2010 Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award. This award is given to a physician who, in the opinion of the members of the selection, committee, by reason of his/her professional contribution on the basis of medical research, achievement or leadership, has become the outstanding physician in this and other years.

      Arthur Granito ’70, Harrisburg, was appointed vice president and chief financial officer of the Cancer Recovery Foundation International, an international charity with organizations in London, Paris, Toronto, Berlin and the United States.

      Ernest Kollra, Esq. ’75, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has been re-elected president and chairman of the Board of The Irish Theater of Florida.

      Stephen Apaliski, M.D. ’77, Colleyville, Texas, completed a one year training program in Executive & Professional Coaching at the University of Texas, Dallas. He is on the certification track of the International Coach Federation and plans on focusing his coaching on physicians in times of change while continuing his practice of medicine.

      Patrick Fiore ’78, Palmetto, Fla., was elected to the office of city commissioner in Palmetto Bay.

      Jeffrey Schimelfenig ’83 was named president-elect of the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Bar Association (LGBT Bar). His term will begin in 2012. The LGTB Bar is an association of lawyers, judges, law students and other legal professionals and is an affiliate of the American Bar Association.

      Robert DiGenova ’87, Red Bank, N.J., of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office was elected as the chairman/president of the County Narcotics Commanders Association of New Jersey and represents the State of New Jersey as a delegate with the National Narcotic Officers Association Coalition.

      David Allegra ’88, Basking Ridge, N.J., was elected to the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Commission on Accreditation for Home Care (CAHC). CAHC, a home care watchdog, monitors agencies throughout New Jersey to ensure consumers receive services that meet established guidelines and industry practices.

       MaryAnn A. Groncki ’94, DSW, LCSW, Berwyn, PA received her Doctorate from the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania.  MaryAnn is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in Paoli, PA.  In addition to her clinical practice and teaching, MaryAnn will continue with her research which focuses on adopted women and their attachment related experiences.

      Patricia Meli Pruzhansky ’03, Huntington Station, N.Y., received her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education with honors from Hofstra University. She is certified in both elementary and early childhood education and is currently reaching pre-school for Long Island Head Start.

      Ryan O’Malley ’99, G’03, Marysville, completed his second Master’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

      Susan Chrusciel ’04 , Plainsboro, N.J., is pursuing her MBA in Pharmaceutical Management and Marketing at Rutgers Business School.

      Michelle Bochanski ’07, Washington Twp, N.J., received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island.

      Thomas V. Amico ’75, of Kingston Township, recently joined the First National Bank of Pennsylvania as a market executive.
