2011 Frank O'Hara Award Winners Announced

Dr. Frank O'Hara, who was often referred to as "Mr. University," was a longtime administrator, serving as director of alumni relations and registrar, and briefly in 1942 as acting president.
Twelve individuals will be presented with the 2011 Frank O’Hara Award during Alumni Reunion Weekend, June 10-12, on campus. The O’Hara Award is the highest award bestowed jointly by the University and the Alumni Society for outstanding achievement in a particular field or endeavor. This year’s honorees and the categories for which they will receive their award are:
  • Joseph A. Bertolino, Ed. D. ’86, Flushing, NY (Education)
  • Rosemary Broderick ’76, G ’80, G ’89, Clarks Summit, PA (Community Service)
  • John D. Dionne ’86, H’10 Westport, CT (Management)
  • Arlene V. Drack, M.D. ’81, Coralville, IA (Medicine)
  • John J. Fendrock ’48, Ridgewood, NJ (Arts and Letters)
  • Robert L. McKeage, Ph.D. ’71, Scranton, PA (University Service)
  • Geno J. Merli M.D. ’71, Haddonfield, NJ (Medicine)
  • Patricia Moran, Esq. ’81, New York, NY (Law)
  • Margaret Schaefer ’81, Bowie, MD (Government Service)
  • Dennis M. Size ’76, New York, NY (Arts and Letters)
  • Joseph F. Weiss, Ph.D. ’61, Kensington, MD (Science and Technology)
  • Shirley J. Yee, Ph.D.’81, Seattle, WA (Education)
The award is named for the late administrator who served The University of Scranton for 53 years. Since 1981, the University and its Alumni Society have honored 273 people with O’Hara Awards.
