Mahatma Gandhi’s Grandson to Speak at Scranton
As part of its 2010 – 2011 Education for Justice theme of peace and reconciliation, The University of Scranton will host a lecture by Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and past president of Initiatives of Change International. A noted author and biographer, Gandhi will deliver the keynote address in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, the eve of the University’s annual Education for Justice teach-in. The event is free and open to the public.
For half a century, Gandhi has been engaged in international efforts for trust building, reconciliation and democracy and in battles against corruption and inequalities. Currently a research professor at the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Gandhi has worked consistently for India-Pakistan and Hindu-Muslim reconciliation. Since 9/11, he has also tried to address the divide between the West and the world of Islam.
The Education for Justice Office promotes justice throughout The University of Scranton community through various programs, lectures and activities. The office wishes to educate students on the importance of justice, so they may act ethically when faced with justice themes in the future.
Following his March 31 lecture, Gandhi will give a workshop on conflict resolution and peacemaking on Friday, April 1, in the DeNaples Center, room 405, from 9-10:30 a.m. While the evening lecture is open to the public, the workshop requires prior registration. Contact justice-education@scranton.edu for more information.

Donate your Prom Dress to Cinderella's Closet
Sponsored by the Junior League of Scranton, Cinderella’s Closet is an annual event scheduled on Thursday April 14, at the Scranton Cultural Center's Shopland Hall. The event helps high school girls have an opportunity to go to the prom in a dress of their choice and feel like the “belle of the ball” — all for less than $10.
With the cost of formal attire increasing, students and parents are likely to have difficulty affording this important night. The junior league believes students shouldn’t suffer the consequences of these growing prices.
Dresses should be of modern style, clean and in good condition — no 80s dresses please. Cinderella’s Closet also accepts formal footwear, jewelry and hair accessories. Bring back your dresses after Spring Break! Donations can be dropped off in The Community Outreach Office now through Friday, April 1. Our office is located in DeNaples Center, room 205B. For more information, contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu.
