      Council of Alumni Lawyers

      The Council of Alumni Lawyers will host its first Continuing Legal Education Conference on Friday, March 4, in the DeNaples Center on campus. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with presentations running from 8:30 a.m. - noon. The CLE sessions are open to all PA Lawyers. A special networking luncheon for University of Scranton Alumni will follow the presentations.

      Shamrockin’ Eve Committee Visits Campus
      The alumni steering committee for Shamrockin’ Eve 2011 met on campus on Feb. 12 to discuss plans for the March 11 event. In attendance were Joe Butash ’07, Chris Molitoris ’08, Cate McKenna ’09, Ali Bauer ’09, Ryan Molitoris ’10 and two representatives from the Class of 2011, Will Mascio and Patricia Cermignano. Shamrockin’ Eve is an event for the Classes of 2006 through 2011 held on the eve of the Scranton St. Patrick’s Day parade. To read more, click here.

      'Beyond the Commons' Continues
      Piloted in fall 2010, the informal networking dinner series “Beyond the Commons” continues to receive positive responses from graduating seniors who have attended a dinner. Three dinners took place throughout the month of February and two more have been scheduled for March. Amongst the alumni co-hosts who joined seniors for a dinner in the month of February are Kristi Cordier ’09, John Gownley ’06, Dave McCormick ’75, Patrick Morgan ’01 and Chris Molitoris ’08. “Beyond the Commons” was created by the Class of 2011 Committee and the Alumni Board of Governors to give seniors an opportunity to network with alumni in a casual atmosphere.       Medical Alumni Symposium
      The Face of American Healthcare: 2011
      On Saturday, April 9, our symposium will focus on the State of the American Health System in 2011 and will feature presentations on a variety of related topics by distinguished University alumni and friends. Although the symposium is designed with University alumni in mind, any of your colleagues who are not alumni are most welcome to attend.       A New Way to Volunteer
      Scranton graduates who are interested in becoming alumni volunteers now have an easy way to say so. An electronic volunteer intake form is now available online for alumni to fill out and submit to the alumni office. Whether you’re interested in service opportunities or social events, tell us what interests you and we’ll match you to a volunteer opportunity.       Joe Gleason '99, G'00 has been promoted to market director of Therapy Services and Cardiac Rehab for Redmond Regional, Cartersville and Polk Medical Centers, overseeing all physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and cardiac rehab programs at the three hospitals. For more information, click here.

      Kate McMahon '00, of Pittston, recently joined the Alliance staff as a government services specialist. For more information, click here.

      Rev. Christopher Washington '02 has been selected for a position with the Holy See's Secretariat of State, the oldest department in the Roman Catholic Church's government.       Frank McCartney ’69,
      Maple Glen, executive director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, is the 2011 president of the International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association, an international transportation policy and advocacy organization.

      Brian Duke ’79, Washington Crossing, will be nominated by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett to serve as Secretary of Aging.

      Philip Grieco ’00, Secascus, N.J., is director, sponsorship development, in Team Marketing and Business Operations at the National Basketball Association.

      Capt. Joseph Mazzocchi ’06,
      Campbell Hall, N.Y., was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, one of the military’s top honors, in February 2009, for his exceptionally meritorious service while serving as an executive officer and platoon leader in Afghanistan.  He is also the recipient of The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal and the NATO Medal. He is currently serving his second deployment in Afghanistan.
