Blood Drive Slated for Feb. 15

The Community Outreach and ROTC will be sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Long Center Lobby. Donors and volunteers are needed. For more information, please visit the blood drive webpage or stop by the Community Outreach Office in the DeNaples Center, room 205B.

Scranton Senior to Bike Cross Country

Erin Yuhas '11, a counseling and human services major, will be biking cross country this summer as part of Bike & Build, an organization that conducts cross-country bicycle trips that benefit affordable housing groups. Yuhas will be on the road for more than two months, traveling from Providence, R.I., to Seattle, Wash. She will pedal nearly 4,000 miles during her trip. Dance, Cheerleading Performances Online

The University of Scranton Dance and Cheerleading teams performed at the National College Championships in Orlando, Fla., last month, with the jazz squad advancing to the final round of competition. ROTC Valentine's Day Candy-Gram Sale

Valentine's Day is fast approaching but there is no need to stress about getting your sweetie pie the perfect gift because the University's ROTC program has you covered. We will be selling delicious chocolate roses for you to purchase and write your own personal message to be attached and then hand delivered by a ROTC cadet. Whether it be a boyfriend or girlfriend, friend, or love interest, be sure to let those you care about feel special this Valentine's Day. Candy-Grams will be $4, and we'll also be accepting royal money.  

ROTC members will be selling candy-grams for Valentine's Day on:
  • Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. -2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. 
We will be delivering to on-campus dorms and all off-campus housing. Proceeds go to the ROTC program and the military ball the program hosts.

Intramural Rosters Due; Skiing News

Intramural rosters are due today, Feb. 8, for the following sports: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, co-rec volleyball, co-rec walleyball, co-rec dodgeball, co-rec softball, badminton, racquetball, and table tennis. Roster forms are available in the Rec. Office.

Students, staff and faculty can ski at Sno Mountain on Wednesdays for a reduced price. Tickets are for 5 to 10 p.m. each Wednesday and can be purchased in the Rec. Office each Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost for a lift ticket is $18. To include ski or a snowboard rental the cost is $25. All rentals include a lesson. Transportation is on your own.

Third Annual Hot Cocoa Social Scheduled Feb. 14

Celebrate the spirit of love, friendship and family on Valentine's Day with the Office of Equity and Diversity. Join us for the third annual Hot Cocoa Social and add a piece of your heart and heritage to our family quilt. Bring a piece of fabric 12-inch x 12-inch that's near and dear to you, from a shirt, a dress, an apron, a family member or friend’s favorite tee, etc. You can customize it with your name, the meaning of the piece, or a special note. We will have fabric paints and markers available to help and begin to build the "Scranton Family Quilt" quilt at the social.

We'll see you Monday, Feb. 14, anytime between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St. Thomas Hall, room 473. For more information, please contact The Office of Equity and Diversity at diversity@scranton.edu.

Weight Watchers is Coming to the University

A brand new Weight Watchers program is coming to campus for an eight-week series beginning Tuesday, Feb. 15, at noon. Meetings involve a confidential weigh in, and group meeting that lasts a half hour to 45 minutes. The food plan is distributed at the week 1 orientation. New members may join week 1 and week2 and then it is closed to new members. Meetings will be held in the DeNaples Center, 214.

The cost is $80 prepaid at the first session. Participants must pre-register by Friday, Feb. 11, to make sure we meet the required 15-person minimum. Contact Employee Wellness at mascellic2@scranton.edu or call 941-4550 to register or for information.

Senior Army Officer to Visit Campus in February

The Department of Military Science is proud to announce that on Friday, Feb. 25, through Sunday, Feb. 27, it will host Colonel Reese Turner, the U.S. Army Human Resources Command Division Chief for Maneuver, Fires and Effects. Colonel Turner is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and is currently stationed at Fort Knox, Ky.

Colonel Turner will kick off his visit to Scranton by speaking to the campus community at a luncheon entitled “21st Century Leadership” on Friday, Feb. 25, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Collegiate Hall, Redington Hall. Later that afternoon Colonel Turner will conduct a "Leader Professional Development" seminar with Junior and Senior Cadets in the Military Science Program. The seminar will allow Cadets the opportunity to seek guidance and discuss career and professional development paths, assignments and career management. On Saturday evening, the Royal Warrior Battalion will conduct its annual Military Ball at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Scranton where Colonel Turner will serve as the guest speaker.

As a part of The University’s special programming in honor of Black History Month, the Department of Military Science, the Office of Equity and Diversity and the Office of Multicultural Affairs invite all students, faculty and staff to the presentation and luncheon on Friday, Feb. 25. Is your e-mail in need of organization? Do you need help with archiving old e-mails? Learn some new tips and tricks for handling your e-mail!

Come to the IT Forum on Thursday, Feb., 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Brennan Hall, room 509, and learn how to best organize your e-mail, how to archive old e-mails to access later and some new tips and tricks for handling and your e-mail.

Lunch will be served and there will be prizes! All members of our community are encouraged to attend. Registration is required by Tuesday, Feb. 15, by e-mailing ITServices@scranton.edu.

St. Patrick's Day Wear for Sale

The Community Outreach Office is selling St. Patrick's Day long-sleeve and short-sleeve T-shirts and sweatpants as a fund raiser for domestic service trips. Items are on sale each day in the DeNaples Center, room 205B, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Long-sleeve shirts are $10, short-sleeve shirts are $5 and pants are $20. Sizes are limited.
