Alumni Loyalty and Service Award: Nominate an Outstanding Senior

The Office of Alumni Relations asks that all faculty and staff keep the annual Alumni Loyalty & Service Award in mind as the semester progresses. Take note of undergraduate senior students who demonstrate meritorious efforts in:
  • Enhancing club activities
  • Promoting good will on campus
  • Establishing rapport with the community
  • Exhibiting academic excellence
  • Rendering exceptional service to The University of Scranton
You will receive an official nomination form in March, but if you wish to nominate someone before that time, please send his/her name and a brief explanation to alumni@scranton.edu.

Call for Nominations: PIR Employee Recognition Program

Once again nominations are being sought for the Planning and Information Resources Division Employee Recognition Program. 

The Employee Recognition Program provides an avenue whereby Planning and Information Resources employees’ exemplary contributions and achievements will be recognized.  

This effort will support the values established by the Planning and Information Resources organization. As a division, we are committed to the on-going recognition of the achievements and contributions of our staff who are committed to the divisional values.

Three awards are given each year to the nominated employees who best exemplify and further the following fundamental values:

  • A passion for our work 
  • An atmosphere of mutual respect, collaboration and professional respect 
  • A distinct customer focus 
  • A spirit of innovation 
  • An emphasis on agility 

This year’s awards are based upon performance from April 2010 through March 2011. Nominations will be accepted through March 31.  

Nominations may be received from any source, internal or external to the division and submitted to the awards committee, in care of the Director, IT Services or submitted electronically to http://matrix.scranton.edu/pir/erp.shtml.  

The following information should be included: 
(1) Nominee's name 
(2) Description of the specific contribution or action made by the nominee 
(3) How the nominee's action(s) and contribution(s) demonstrate at least one of the five values listed above 
(4) Nominator's name The nominator should give as complete a description as possible regarding what the nominee accomplished to deserve the award and how it demonstrates one or more of the Divisional Values.

CNAC Re-Authentication Set for Wednesday

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the re-authentication will also upgrade your CNAC client. On Wednesday, all end-users will be prompted with the following:

"NAC Agent 4.8.032 is available.  Do you want to install this update now?

Click OK and after a few minutes the new Cisco NAC Agent will install. 

Once the install is complete, you should enter your University user name and password into the CNAC agent to gain network access. 

This process will allow us to continually assess the validity and health of our computing environment.  A CNAC re-authentication process will routinely occur on the second Wednesday of each month.

2011 Employee Party Invitation

You and your spouse or guest are invited to The University of Scranton's annual Community Celebration, scheduled Saturday, March 5, in the Byron Recreation Complex. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will start at 7 p.m. The theme is Casino Royale, and will feature:

The Insider’s Guide to Smartphones Set for Feb. 16

"The Insider’s Guide to Smartphones" is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in Weinberg Memorial Library, room 305.
 
In this "Technology On Your Own Terms" workshop, Kristen Yarmey, digital services librarian, and Diane Jachimowicz, technology services analyst, will discuss some of the technology behind smartphones like iPhones, Androids and Blackberries. We’ll talk about what terms like 3G, 4G, tethering, and jailbreaking mean in plain English, what sensors like accelerometers and compasses mean for average users, how operating systems like iOS and Android differ, and what phone features to look out for in 2011 and beyond.

A light lunch will be provided during the discussion. All faculty and staff members are welcome, but seats are limited, so please register at www.scranton.edu/ctleregistration (under Technology On Your Own Terms).

Please join the faculty liaisons for a workshop that focuses on how faculty can use course evaluation results to enhance their teaching skills. The presentation and discussion will look at how to interpret student feedback on multiple-choice question and open-ended comments. All faculty members are invited. A light lunch will be provided. Dr. Jeanne Kincaid, leading attorney on the ADA/Rehabilitation Act in higher education settings

How does the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) affect our work in the classroom? Dr. Jeanne Kincaid, a consultant to colleges and universities on ADA issues, will share her expertise on this issue. Join us for a discussion as we attempt to understand how the requirements of the ADA mesh with our needs to maintain standards as we provide a quality educational experience.
