Warm wishes, friendly smiles and plenty of food will greet area residents attending The University of Scranton’s annual Community Christmas Day Breakfast, planned for Saturday, Dec. 25, from 8 to 11 a.m. in the DeNaples Center on campus. The breakfast is offered free of charge to the elderly and those who are alone or in need as a gift to the community this holiday season.

The belief that no one should be alone on Christmas Day has inspired Pat Vaccaro, director of the university’s Community Outreach Office, to organize the breakfast with the support of Ted Zayac, associate resident district manager at The University of Scranton Dining Services/ARAMARK. 

The breakfast will include all the traditional trimmings – like eggs, sausage, pancakes, juice and danish – as well as musical performances and a visit from Santa.

The University of Scranton Dining Service/ARAMARK staff, as well as volunteers from The University of Scranton, will prepare and serve the breakfast.

Ellen Judge, administrative assistant for the Community Outreach Office, and Joseph Boyd, assistant food service director, have been working with Vaccaro and Zayac to plan the event and organize the 70 staff, faculty and students who have volunteered along with members of their families to help out at the breakfast.

This is the second year for the breakfast.
