Royal Review For Nov. 22-28

Men’s Basketball (2-2 Overall/0-0 Landmark Conference)
The Royals opened the period with a 76-66 loss at Misericordia University on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Anderson Center in Dallas.
Scranton trailed from start to finish, falling behind 29-23 at intermission, but did manage to cut the margin to one with seven minutes left and by four with a minute remaining. The Cougars then converted a traditional 3-point play and made six free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Senior guard Zach Ashworth (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) led Scranton with 20 points and senior guard Luke Hawk (Audubon/Methacton) and senior forward Andrew Wynne (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Royals returned to action after the Thanksgiving break on Sunday, Nov. 28, and dropped a hard-fought 88-85 decision in overtime to Elizabethtown College at the Long Center. The Blue Jays took control in the extra stanza, knocking down 5 of 7 shots from the field, including three 3-point field goals, and made 8 of 9 free throw attempts to record their first win over Scranton at the Long Center since a 109-97 victory on Feb. 3, 2001.
Freshman guard Tommy Morgan (Greenlawn, N.Y./Chaminade) came off the bench and connected on 8 of 11 field goal attempts to finish with a team and season-high 22 points. The Royals also received 19 points from Ashworth, a career-high 18 points from junior forward Matt Swaback (Kingston/Wyoming Seminary) and 15 points from sophomore guard Travis Farrell (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy).
Women’s Basketball (2-2 Overall/0-0 Landmark Conference)
The Lady Royals renewed their local rivalry against King’s College on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Long Center.
Scranton jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, extended the margin to 51-23 by intermission, and went on to post an 87-49 victory in its first game against the Lady Monarchs since Feb. 24, 2007, in the championship game of the Freedom Conference tournament.
Senior guard Megan Kopecki (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) led four Lady Royals in double-figures with 17 points, senior guard Jennifer King (Taylor/Riverside) and sophomore guard Katherine Torto (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Central Catholic) finished with 13 points apiece, and junior forward Sarah Gage (Ledgewood, N.J./Roxbury) contributed a season-high 12 points. Torto’s 13 points were a career-high.
Men’s Swimming (2-3)
The men’s swim team did not compete during the period.
Women’s Swimming (4-2)
The women’s swim team did not compete during the period.
Wrestling (3-3)
The wrestling team did not compete during the period.
