Attendance at Open House Sets Record
More than 1,000 prospective students attend The University of Scranton’s Open House on Sunday, Oct. 24, setting a new record for the event.
The event provided the opportunity for prospective students and their families to meet with faculty, staff and students. Campus tours were also held throughout the day.
At noon, a general information session was held in the Long Center that included a presentation by Joseph Roback, associate vice president of admissions and undergraduate enrollment, Harold Baillie, Ph.D., provost and vice president of academic affairs, and students.
Sarah Neitz, a junior international studies major from Gettsyburg, told prospective students and their families attending the session that college is “a life-changing experience.” She described her involvement in numerous clubs and organizations on campus, as well as her experience studying abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Dan Herr, a senior bio-chemistry major from Lake Hopatcong, N.J., said he didn’t realize just how important his Scranton education was until he recently went on several medical school interviews. Herr explained that he was able to “stand out from other applicants from schools such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton” because of strong test scores and how well prepared he was for the interviews. He was not only educated in his specific major, but in other areas as well, making him a more well-rounded person.
Dr. Baillie discussed the emotional and intellectual feelings associated with choosing a college. He emphasized that Scranton is a “campus on the move” and explained the Jesuit school’s commitment to take each student’s individual gifts and turn them into a life well lived.
Prospective students and their families are invited to attend our second open house on Sunday, Nov. 7. Visit www.scranton.edu/openhouse to register.
