Hands-on art workshops, led by Enrique Makanaxeiti Montalvo, a Taino artist, will be featured at Diversity Fair.

Two Native American artists will be featured at this year's Diversity Fair, scheduled Thursday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the DeNaples Center's fourth floor.

Frank LittleBear, of Cree Nation heritage, is a lecturer of Native American culture, musician and artist, and has performed internationally. Inspired by his own nation's traditions and beliefs, he furthered his knowledge of other indigenous tribes and their ancestral spirituality native to the United States, Canada and South America. LittleBear is dedicated to educating audiences on the diverse social, traditional and contemporary lifestyles of indigenous peoples, both past and present. He will have an informational table at Diversity Fair, as well as share his music with the campus in the DeNaples Center's lobby.

Enrique Makanaxeiti Montalvo is a Taino artist who learned his arts and crafts skills from his grandparents and the Taino community located both in the United States and Boriken, better known as Puerto Rico. For a long time, like many other Tainos, Enrique thought that his family was the last one to keep some of the Tainos traditions alive, but in secrecy. As a young boy, he was told not to discuss some of the rituals that were practiced in the household with any outsiders. Through the education and encouragement of his grandparents, he learned the trades and incorporated them into special workshops. Enrique's program was developed to help students understand the cultural dimensions and contributions of the arts. Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of the past and present  Enrique will feature hands-on art workshops all day during Diversity Fair starting on the hour. Registration for these workshops is necessary.
