Race for the Cure A Success

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the NEPA Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which was held on Saturday, Sept. 11. This event has become a September tradition in Northeastern Pennsylvania and has evolved to become the city of Scranton’s largest 5K event.
With more 280 students, faculty, staff, family and friends participating, The University of Scranton was again this year awarded a plaque for the “Largest School Team.” Several departments and clubs were represented including the girls basketball team, Nursing Department, ROTC and Italian Club. Many walked or ran in support of survivors or in memory of loved ones who have succumbed to the disease.
Gathering for a group photo prior to the race, team participants wore "Royal" purple t-shirts provided by the Office of Human Resources and ROTC members were represented in their gold shirts. Pre-race refreshments were provided on the DeNaples Center's patio, courtesy of Aramark.
Brian Conniff, Ph.D., CAS Dean, and John Major, Aramark, received awards for their finish time and committee members Lynn Gavin, Betsey Moylan and Eileen Notarianni extend their gratitude to all who helped make this event one of the most successful ever.
