Three years ago a tradition was started by Student Government called the Scranton Street Sweep. It was a way for the students of our University to take ownership of our Hill Section; a way to better include that area of our community in campus life by making a positive impact on it.
This semester’s Scranton Street Sweep will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at noon, beginning in the Rock Hall Parking Lot, located behind Madonna Della Strada, between Monroe Avenue and Madison Avenue.
We need as many Scranton students as possible to help. The Hill Section is part of our community, and we are responsible for it. As club leaders, this could be a wonderful idea to use as a community service event. Please encourage your club to participate.
To sign up for the Street Sweep, visit Tricia Cummings in the Student Forum, DeNaples 205S. The normal service approval procedure will still follow though. We are expecting a large turnout for this, so sign up as soon as possible.
For more information, stop by the Student Government office located in the Student Forum or e-mail Patricia Cermignano, director of Communications at cermignanop2@scranton.edu. IEEE Club Hosts Meeting Thursday
Come join the IEEE Club for a meeting on Thursday, Sept 23, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., in St. Thomas Hall, room 292. This week the guest speaker is a student of the University, Patrick McLaughlin.
Last year, McLaughlin was involved with the development of an unmanned aerial vehicle while in the engineering club at Dunmore High School. He and others on the project received recognition from Vice President Joe Biden for their accomplishments. Free pizza and soda will be provided. Everyone is welcome!
The Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a club that provides students with the opportunity not only to participate in a campus wide event in the form of an IEEE seminar series (presentations by distinguished scientists, community business leaders, as well as our alumni and various employers/prospective job companies), but also as a time and place to pursue the club agenda, professional development and networking.
