O’Malley Honored for Commitment to Coaching Education, Sportsmanship

In appreciation of his continued commitment to athletics and sportsmanship in Northeastern Pennsylvania, John J. O’Malley, Ph.D., professor emeritus of psychology and chairman of Bochicchio Sport Character Initiative, garnered two awards recently, including an Honorary Membership Award from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association (PSADA).

Award-winning Author to Present Weinberg Judaic Studies Institute Lecture

Dara Horn, Ph.D., an acclaimed American novelist, will present The Weinberg Judaic Studies Institute’s Spring 2010 Lecture on April 10 at the University of Scranton’s Houlihan-McLean Center. The lecture will take place at 8:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

‘Shakespeare and the Drama of Love’ to be Discussed at Lecture

A Georgetown University professor, who asserts that love plays a major role in virtually all of William Shakespeare’s plays, will deliver the sixth annual J.J. Quinn, S.J., Memorial Lecture at The University of Scranton on Wednesday, April 7. The lecture, which is open to the public and free of charge, will be held in the Houlihan-McLean Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Surrealist Artwork Featured in Exhibit

Vojen Cech Colini, who was born in Kolin, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), was influenced by German Expressionism and Surrealism. In his own work, Colini combined elements of these styles with the Renaissance medium of egg tempera.

Weinberg Memorial Library Book Sale

The University of Scranton’s Weinberg Memorial Library will hold its annual Book and Plant Sale on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Sunday, April 25, from noon until 4 p.m. The sale will take place in the Scranton Heritage Room on the fifth floor of the Weinberg Memorial Library. Book prices begin at $1. Flowering plants and tag sale items will also be sold.
