“Remembrances of Place Past X: Kolin Square” by Vojen Cech Colini will be among the pieces on display from April 7-30 at The University of Scranton’s Hope Horn Gallery.
An exhibit celebrating his life and work, called “Colini: Remembrances of Places Past,” will be on display at the Hope Horn Gallery in The University of Scranton’s Hyland Hall from April 7 to 30.
“It’s very finely painted and very realistic,” said Darlene Miller-Lanning, Ph.D., director of the Hope Horn Gallery. “It has a kind of porcelain quality to it - a very smooth, beautiful finish.
The images are recognizable, but the figures, animals or buildings are put in strange contexts that give it a mysterious quality.”Colini moved from Europe to America, eventually moving from New York City to Allentown and then to Scranton.
An exhibit lecture by Dr. Miller-Lanning will take place on April 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Brennan Hall.
Immediately following the lecture, a reception will be held in the Hope Horn Gallery from to 8 p.m.The gallery is open Sunday through Friday, from noon to 4 p.m., and on Wednesdays, from 6 to 8 p.m.
