Scranton SIFE Team Named Regional Champion
Competing against 35 other teams, The University of Scranton SIFE students presented a 24-minute, multi-media summary of educational outreach projects they developed and implemented throughout the academic year. They were judged by a panel of area business and community leaders on how well they created economic opportunity by helping others.
The Scranton team is made up of sophomore, junior and senior communication and business majors. Jan Kelly, Ph.D., associate professor of communication and the founder of the Scranton SIFE Chapter, and Elaine Tweedy, director of the small business development center on campus, moderate the SIFE team.
In addition to competition, students had the opportunity to interview for jobs and internships at a Career Fair with representatives from more than 20 SIFE Partner Companies including Sam’s Club, Campbell Soup Company and Unilever. The University's SIFE team was formed six years ago and this was its sixth appearance at the Regional Competition.
Currently, 25 students participate in Scranton SIFE with leadership by Kim Loyden, a junior communication major from Philadelphia.
