Discussion Explores ‘Healing on the Edge of Society’
According to Debra Pellegrino, Ed.D, dean of the Panuska College of Professional Studies, the talk is “directed at action” and will explore an interdisciplinary approach to delivering effective community health.
“The lecture by Father Duffy will be followed by a general discussion about the role attendees can play to engage the entire community to improve health care delivery for those who are disenfranchised and marginalized,” said Dr. Pellegrino.
Father Duffy is a board certified internist who recently joined the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University. He is a graduate of both the Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Georgetown University Hospital. He received a master’s degree in health care ethics from Loyola University in Chicago, Ill., and a master of divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, Calif., while practicing in the inner city health care setting. He is the preceptor for medical students for the Ambulatory Care Course at the Spanish Catholic Center Medical Department. Serving on the Ethics Consultation Service for Georgetown University Hospital, Father Duffy also holds weekly ICU ethics rounds and serves on the Organ Transplantation Committee as an ethics advisor.
The session is sponsored by the Department of Health Administration and Human Resources through a federal Health Profession Education and Training Grant. Attendance is limited to invited guests. The discussion will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Collegiate Hall of Redington Hall.
