Topics sought for Open Forum in April

The Committee on the Status of Women has scheduled its spring Open Forum for Thursday, April 8. Following its successful November event — which highlighted “Community Safety” — the committee is seeking suggestions for important topics/issues that should be discussed this spring. This process will help the organization secure a knowledgeable presenter for the forum. Send your suggestions to Dr. Marian Farrell, chair of the committee, by e-mail, farrellm1@scranton.edu, or via campus mail.

Faculty Advancement Series set for Feb. 25

“How to Achieve Pedagogical Goals with Learning Technologies”

Learning technologies are often presented to us as the solution to any teaching problem. This presentation will focus on specific ways that learning technologies can and cannot support learning goals in the undergraduate classroom. The presentation will discuss several projects, some of which are broad in scope and some of which focus on specific pedagogical problems in one instructor's classroom. Although the examples presented are rooted in history as a discipline, the lessons learned will be applicable to all disciplinary contexts.

A Faculty Advancement Series event, sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in St. Thomas Hall, room 590, Harper McGinnis wing. The event’s guest speaker is T. Mills Kelly, Ph.D., of George Mason University.

A light lunch will be provided. R.S.V.P. by Tuesday, Feb. 23. Register online at www.scranton.edu/ctleeventregistration.
