Black History Month 2010 — Our Voices. Our Stories. Our Legacy …

The Office of Multicultural Affairs would like to announce its schedule of events for Black History Month.

When: Monday, Feb. 8; 6 p.m.
Where: The DeNaples Center 405
Event: The Honey Pot: Café Soul
Featuring: Robert Willenbrink, Ph.D, professor of English
Poets will perform a collection of poetry and literary works. An assortment of soul food will be served. 

When: Tuesday, Feb. 9;  5:30 p.m.
Where: The DeNaples Center 406
Event: Real Talk: Is America Really Post-Racial?
Facilitated by: Scott Richardson, Misericordia University
A discussion about President Obama's impact on The White House and racial discrimination in America. 

When: Monday, Feb. 15; 5:30 p.m.
Where: Brennan Hall, Room 502 
Event: Love: In Black & White
Speaker: Meghan Rich, Ph.D., professor of sociology
Join us as we discuss interracial dating in the 21st century.

When: Friday, Feb. 19; 10 p.m.
Where: The Ann and Leo Moskovitz Theater 
Event: Moving screening: Chris Rock’s Good Hair Documentary
The documentary reflects upon the multi-million dollar black hair care industry and the efforts to which many women of color achieve relaxed and/or straightened hair. It is sponsored by The Office of Multicultural Affairs & Student Activities.

When: Saturday, Feb. 20
Where: Brennan Hall, room 509 — The Rose Room
Event: MLK Dinner
Keynote speaker: Dr. Boyce Watkins
“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” — Dr. King
Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and commemorate his message of change and equality for all people.  In addition to publishing a multitude of scholarly articles on Finance and investing, Dr. Watkins has made regular appearances on CNN, Good Morning America, MSNBC, FOX News, BET, NPR, Essence Magazine, USA Today, The Today Show, ESPN, and CBS Sports. It is sponsored by The Office of Multicultural Affairs, The Division of Student Affairs.
