Education for Justice Grants

The deadline for Education for Justice grants has been extended to January 20.  Information about the grants, which are open to all in the University community, and the application are available at http://academic.scranton.edu/organization/edjustice/grants.shtml



Intersession Skiing

The Recreational Sports Department will be sponsoring ski trips to Sno Mountain every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening during the month of January. 

Bus transportation is available on Wednesdays.  Tickets must be purchased in advance (by 1:30 on the day you wish to ski) at the recreation office.  Call 941-6203 for prices and more information.

SBDC Training Aids Small Business Start Ups

Planning to start a business in 2010? The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is an available resource for both start-up and existing businesses, offering low-cost educational programs and consulting at no cost. The SBDC will hold two seminars in Scranton on Friday, January 15 to provide entrepreneurs with information that is critical to the success of their small businesses.

“The First Step: Starting Your Business” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Ideal for new business startups and entrepreneurs without previous business experience, the seminar covers start-up basics, plus an in-depth look at the business plan. Registrations, licenses, business structures, taxation, and financing will be covered, as well as assessing start-up costs, and more.  

“The Second Step: Developing Your Business Plan” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Ideal for pre-venture, start-up and existing businesses, this seminar covers the metrics and rules of developing a business plan, composing a narrative with solid research, understanding and compiling financial projections, understanding the lending process and documentation lenders request, and more.

Each seminar costs only $10 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. To register, call 570-941-7588.

2010 Penn East FCU Lani McCrone Memorial Scholarship

Every year, Penn East FCU is proud to recognize the achievements of two area students through a $2,500 scholarship. The award is based on essays, academic excellence, citizenship and community and school involvement. Applications for the 2010 scholarship will be available online.

Eligibility:

•    Graduating high school seniors who will enroll in a full-time undergraduate program during the 2010-2011 school year at an accredited two- or four-year U.S. college /university or vocational/technical school.

•    Students must be a member of Penn East FCU or have a parent or guardian who is a member (active and in good standing).

•    Children of the Board of Directors or children of Penn East FCU employees are not eligible.

Application process:

•    Stop by any Penn East FCU location or visit www.penneastfcu.org for an application beginning February 1st.

•    Students will be required to submit their application forms, essays, high school transcripts (may be sent under separate cover) and three letters of recommendation.
