USPB Movies

We will be showing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the 5th movie installment in the Harry Potter movie series, on Thursday November 12th at 8:00 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater, DeNaples Center room 401.  If you have any questions contact Liz Klassner at klassnerl2@scranton.edu or the Student Forum at X 6233. 

USPB Travel & Rec

Join us for a fun-filled trip to New York City for a day of shopping and entertainment on Saturday, November 14th as we see the Rockettes perform live in the "Christmas Spectacular".  Bus leaves at 6:30 a.m. from the Linden Street Circle & returns at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for the bus ride & $15 for the bus ride and the show! USPB Royal Ball

Join us to dance the night away at the Royal Ball from 7:00 p.m. till 11:00 p.m. on Saturday November 21st in the McIlhenny Ballroom, DeNaples Center 4th Floor.  This year's theme is 'Under the Sea'. Ticket sales are on the 2nd floor of the DeNaples Center November 16-20th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Wear your formal ware! USPB Mission & Identity

USPB Mission and Identity along with many other University organizations present Post Secret: An Evening with America's Most Trusted Stranger. This is a FREE event to the University of Scranton Community. The Educational Lecture will be held in the McIlhenny Ballroom, DeNaples Center 407  on November 30th, from 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m.  Frank shares the inspirational and funny stories behind some of the quarter million secrets he's received on postcards. Refer to the News & Notes section of our homepage or the Announcements section on my.scranton for ticket information. Tuition Raffle

Looking for something meaningful to do for the Holidays??

The Christmas season is a time when a lot of people want to do good things for others. Volunteering is a great way to help others in their time of need. Many organizations need volunteers year-round but even more so during the Christmas season. Learn how to volunteer during Christmas and help someone in your area.  For more ideas, check out our webpage at www.scranton.edu/volunteers

 

  • October 30- Nov 13-  Fall Cleanup for the Lackawanna River Corridor Association.  Raking, bagging leaves on the Silkman House grounds, North Main Ave. Contact Barbara Semian at volunteer@lrca.org.
  • November 4-Dec 1.  Cut out ornaments for The Giving Tree at the U of S.  Contact Mike Wiencek in the Community Outreach Office, at wiencekm2@scranton.edu. Flexible times.
  • November 19 - 23– United Neighborhood Centers needs help stocking their pantry shelves.  1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  Great for groups, as 10-15 are needed at a time.  Contact Stephanie Salinis at saliniss2@scranton.edu
  • November 20 – Spanish translators for calling families for Thanksgiving food baskets.  Afternoon hours (TBA).  Community Outreach office, contact Ellen Judge @ judgee2@scranton.edu
  • November 21 – The Greater Scranton Jaycees Santa Parade needs balloon carriers, traffic helpers, sign holders, etc.  7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. in downtown Scranton.  Contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu for more information on sign ups.  This is an outdoor event.  Dress appropriately.
  • November 22 – Community Outreach Thanksgiving Food Baskets.  Help put baskets together from 10am –noon in DeNaples.  1pm to ? deliver baskets to families in need.  Drivers with their own car a plus.  Contact Pat Vaccaro @ vaccarop1@scranton.edu
  • November 22- CCHF Perkey Turkey 5K run with Compassionate Care Hospice.  From 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., help set up, clean up event, hand out snacks, run around!  Contact Becky Klepadlo at bklepadlo@cchnet.net
  • November 24- Friends of the Poor Thanksgiving Dinner at the Scranton Cultural Center.  Peel potatoes, set and decorate tables, carve, serve and carry, clean up.  9:30-a.m. -9:00 p.m.  Contact 570-348-4428.
  • November 25- Family to Family Thanksgiving Basket giveaway at the Scranton Cultural Center.  Unload trucks, basket packers, distributors.  6:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.  Contact 570-348-4428.
  • November 27th – Dec 24 -  Holiday Gift Wrap for UCP.  Individuals and groups are welcome to sign up. Viewmont Mall.  The booth opens daily at noon. Contact 570-347-3357 or email ucpnepa@epix.net.
  • November 27th – Dec 24. Christmas Gift Wrap Program at Steamtown Mall needs individuals/groups for a 3 or 4 hour time slots – all proceeds benefit UNC.  Contact Mary at Mendrusick@uncnepa.org
  • December 4, 5, 7 &10- EOTC needs elves for their toyland workshop where kids shop for their families.  Set up and tear down workshop, test out the toys.  Contact Carlene at cgula-eotc@verizon.net
  • December 6- The Community Outreach office is hosting a Holiday Party for agency children from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  Help decorate the Ballroom, serve food, do a craft table, help with Santa pictures, assist with sing a long.  Contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu

  • Whole School Year- Leahy Clinic (located on campus in McGurrin Hall) needs help organizing clothes and food donations for clients.  Mondays 10-12 and Tuesdays 4-5.  Contact Anna Dicolli at dicollia2@scranton.edu.
  • Whole School Year- Repower America needs volunteers to shoot videos and pictures about citizens who care about the environment.  Also doing phone canvassing for support.  Flexible hours.  Contact laura.keating@climateprotect.org
  • Whole School Year – Elm Street Project.  United Neighborhood Centers will put volunteers together with local community justice teams (district attorney, police, property inspectors) to address blighted areas, code violations and delinquent property owners to deter crime.  Contact Stephanie at sbressler@uncnepa.org

Leadership University!

Registrations are still being accepted for Leadership University, Saturday, November 14th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Brennan Hall.  The Goal of Leadership University is to aid in the development of tomorrow's leaders so they can make a positive impact on the lives of others.  Through a variety of leadership development opportunities, Leadership University strives to develop exemplary qualities including a stronger understanding of self, team and true authentic leadership. How to Run an Effective Meeting!

The Office of Student Activities and Orientation is hosting “How to
Run an Effective Meeting” as part of the Leadership Development
Series. This event will occur on Wednesday November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in
DeNaples 405.  Come to learn how to run a club meeting or any meeting

The University Players are proud to announce their Fall 2009 Broadway Trip!

On Sunday November 15th the University Players will travel to NYC to see a matinée performance of “In The Next Room or the vibrator play” written by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Les Waters. The bus will depart the Linden Circle outside of the McDade CLP at 10:00 a.m. and return by 10:00 p.m. This trip is generously subsidized by the University Players and because of this, the total cost to attend including the bus and ticket is only $40. In addition, the University Players will participate in an exclusive talk back with director Les Waters and actor Thomas Jay Ryan (Mr. Daldry) to discuss the show and its cultural significance with our group immediately following the performance.
