Preview Screening of “Project Rebirth”

Please join us for a special preview screening of “Project Rebirth,” a film which chronicles the true stories of the resilience of the human spirit in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center disaster.

This preview screening is brought to our campus through special arrangement from filmmaker, James Whitaker.

As the President of Production for Imagine Entertainment, James Whitaker produced such hit films as The Changeling, Friday Night Lights, American Gangster, and 8 Mile.  He will be on hand to both introduce his latest work and answer any questions after the screening. University Players Present “Redwood Curtain”

The University of Scranton Players will be performing “Redwood Curtain “ by Lanford Wilson directed by Mary Catherine Burke on Nov6-8. Fridays and Saturdays @8 and Sundays @2. Multicultural Affairs Discussion

Please join The Office of Multicultural Affairs as we discuss the decreasing enrollment of men of color in colleges and universities across the nation. Civic Engagement Webinar

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend a webinar on colleges and universities as agents for civic engagement and democracy.  The webinar is being presented by the Society for College and University Planning and will take place Tuesday, November 3 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the Provost's Conference Room in STT, Communications Wing, 5th floor. Human Trafficking Lecture November 7

Sr. Anne Munley, IHM, Ph.D. will deliver the fifth annual Alpha Sigma Nu Alumni Club lecture on “Understanding and Counteracting the Scourge of Human Trafficking” on Saturday, November 7, 2009, 5:00 PM in Pearn Auditorium (Room 228) Brennan Hall.  Sr. Anne Munley is the President of Marywood University and co-author of a recent book on human trafficking.

Sometimes described as today’s human slave trade, human trafficking is reported to be the fastest growing criminal activity in the world.  The majority of transnational victims are women and girls, with most trafficked into commercial sexual exploitation.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

The annual TA TALK/ Luncheon sponsored by the Dept. of World Languages and Cultures and funded by a University of Scranton Diversity Initiatives Grant will be Tues, Nov. 10, 11:30am in Brennan 509. Jazz Ensemble Concert with special guests

4:30 p.m. - open rehearsal and clinic for student drummers and their teachers, school groups welcome - pre-registration required - call 570-941-7624 (sponsored by Zildjian, Latin Percussion, and Drum Workshop)
Jazz drummer, author, and educator Steve Fidyk has toured and recorded with Maureen McGovern, New York Voices, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, The Capitol Bones, The Taylor/Fidyk Big Band (an ensemble he co-leads with Stan Kenton arranger Mark Taylor), and many others, and is the drummer with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble from Washington D.C
     As a co-leader, Fidyk’s discography includes: Big Kids (U.S. Roots), A Perfect Match (Write Groove), and Live at Blues Alley (OA2) and can be heard on over 50 recordings as a contributing artist.
    
As an educator, Fidyk has authored: The Drum Set SMART Book, Inside the Big Band Drum Chart, Jazz Drum Set Independence 3/4, 4/4, and 5/4 Time Signatures, and an instructional DVD entitled Set Up and Play!  He has also recorded over 75 jazz play-along volumes for the Hal Leonard Corporation and contributed drum transcriptions to "Drum Standards" and Peter Erskine’s "The Drum Perspective".
     Fidyk is presently a member of the jazz faculty at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He holds a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Maryland and Bachelors in Music Education from Wilkes University.
