Midnight Madness
On Wednesday October 28th at 10:30 PM in the John Long Center, Student Government will be hosting its annual Midnight Madness to help kick off the Men’s and Women’s 2009-2010 Basketball season. Holiday Service Projects
The holiday season is almost upon us! There are many individuals who could use your assistance in making their holiday a little brighter. Here are some projects to get involved in:
THANKSGIVING: We will be providing food baskets for 150 families this year. Monetary donations of any amount would be appreciated. Our students from Cura Personalis (http://academic.uofs.edu/department/reslife/cura-personalis-program.shtml) will be soliciting donations each day in The DeNaples Center at lunchtime. Cash is best (we can provide a receipt if requested) but checks are also acceptable, made out to “The University of Scranton”. Funds can also be transferred directly to our account, in addition to swiping with your Royal Card in The Community Outreach Office (sorry no flex, royal $$ only). Contact us for more information.
Clubs or floors may also hold a canned /non perishable food drive to assist with this endeavor. Prior approval with student government club forms is necessary. Donations must be delivered to The Community Outreach Office by Thursday, November 19.
ADOPT AN ANGEL: The Community Outreach Office is working with area agencies to bring some Christmas happiness to abused, neglected, and under privileged children. This would entail purchasing at least one outfit and several toys for the child. The cost ranges from $100-150. These gifts must be in The Community Outreach Office by Monday, December 7th. (Please do NOT include a card with this – the kids are getting these gifts from “Santa”.) Please remember to include batteries if the gift requires them. Instead of wrapping gifts, please send a roll of wrapping paper and tape or put unwrapped presents in gift bags. This year all children are from local Head Start Programs, Friendship House and area group homes. Please contact Ellen Judge at judgee2@scranton.edu if you or your group is interested in adopting a child for Christmas. Clubs do require preapproval forms from Student Government. http://www.scrantonsg.org/clubs/forms/
Your angel information will be sent to you by email following your request. Requests for angels must be submitted by Monday, November 23rd to judgee2@scranton.edu.
GIVING TREE: Individuals are given the opportunity to make a local child’s Christmas merry. A tree will be set up in the DeNaples Center beginning Monday, Nov. 16th, and allows students and staff to choose to sponsor a boy or a girl in various age groups by selecting an ornament. The student/staff member has freedom of gift selection. The cost ranges from $20-25. Unwrapped gifts are due in The Community Outreach Office by Monday, December 7th. Please remember to include batteries if the gift requires them.
If you wish to make a monetary donation, cash is the best method. Donations may also be transferred directly into our account, or you may swipe with your Royal Card in The Community Outreach Office (sorry, no flex, Royal $$ only). All monetary collections will go towards a child in need to purchase gift cards. Call us for details.
Please feel free to stop by our office 205B DeNaples, or call us at 570-941-7429 with any questions or for additional information.
Thank you for thinking of others this holiday season; your generosity IS making a difference.
