The University of Scranton Bestows Annual John L. Earl Award

Willis M. Conover, Ed.D., professor of history and chair of the Department of History at The University of Scranton, was awarded the 10th annual John L. Earl III Award for service to the university, the faculty, and the wider community. The award is given in the spirit of generosity and dedication that the late Dr. John Earl, a distinguished professor of history, exemplified during his years at Scranton from 1964 to 1996.
    Dr. Conover joined The University of Scranton’s faculty in 1978 and was promoted to professor in 1993. He received the University Award for Teaching in 1992.
    A resident of Clarks Summit, Dr. Conover has researched the origins of names of numerous places and towns in Lackawanna County. He holds both a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree and doctorate from Montana State University.
    The Earl Award was presented to Dr. Conover at a University Convocation earlier this semester.
