Fall Break Service Trips
The Community Outreach and The Office of Student Engagement are hosting a
Fall Break Service Trip
Saturday October 15 through Tuesday October 18
Students will be stay at The University's Chapman Lake Retreat Center from Friday evening (October 14) through Tuesday (October 18). Transportation and meals are provided. Cost per person is $40. The University will provide work gloves, masks and eye protection. Applications are available in the Community Outreach Office, DeNaples 205B.
Faculty and staff who would like to help can meet our students at the sites. Please email Lori Moran for a list of sites and times at moranl7@scranton.edu
Volunteers will be doing flood clean up projects in the Wyoming County and Luzurne County areas, helping neighbors clean up homes, carry debris and tear down drywall. While no experience is necessary, you will need work or rain boots.
Clubs who are interested in volunteering as a service project can do table sits in the DeNaples Center to collect cleaning supplies and monetary donations. Club members can also work at the sites but must stay at the Lake if participating in hands on work. To sign up your club, please contact Patricia Cummings at cummingsp3@scranton.edu or stop by The Community Outreach Office. Clubs preapprovals are necessary. Please obtain these outside the student government office in DeNaples.
Current Needs:
- Water (bottled and gallon jugs)
- Healthy, packaged foods (granola bars, energy bars, snack mix, nuts, juice boxes, peanut butter, crackers, tuna)
- Rubber gloves
- Dust masks
- Flashlights with batteries
- Mops
- Buckets
- Garbage bags
- Bleach
- Rakes
- Shovels
- Paper towels
- Toiletries (deodorant, shaving cream, razors, wet wipes, antibacterial hand sanitizer, insect repellent, feminine hygiene products, ibuprofen and acetaminophen, tissues)
Cash, checks made out to The Unversity of Scranton and royal card are accepted. The Community Outreach Office will disperse the funds to local agencies such Interfaith Friends (The Interfaith Friends Flood Relief Distribution Site is located at 189 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock) and the American Red Cross.
