Dr. Joe Bertolino currently serves as the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, Executive Assistant to the President and Chair of the Department of Student Personnel at Queens College/City University of New York. He has served in this role since 2004.

This past year, Joe served as a Fellow with the American Council on Education at the University of Houston System, under the mentorship of Chancellor Renu Khator, and at the University of Texas at Brownsville, under the mentorship of President Juliet Garcia.  Prior to his arrival at Queens, he served as the Dean for Community Development at Barnard College of Columbia University, and has worked in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania state higher education systems and the SUNY system.

Administrative leadership in higher education has been his passion for the past twenty years.  Beyond Queens College Dr. Bertolino is an author, lecturer, and teacher, having presented hundreds of programs to tens of thousands of students at over 600 colleges and conferences nation-wide.  He has authored numerous articles and book chapters, and is currently co-authoring “Bright Lights, Big City:  A View of Student Affairs at Urban Institutions,” with Dr. Marie Ting of Michigan State University.   Dr. Bertolino has been recognized with numerous outstanding professional awards, including having been named Campus Activities Magazine’s “Best Diversity Artist” in 2007 and the American College Personnel Associations prestigious Annuit Coeptis Award.   This past summer, his undergraduate alma mater, the University of Scranton, presented him with the 2011 Frank O’Hara Award in Education, the highest award given jointly by the University and the National Alumni Society.

His research interests include student immigration (with an emphasis on undocumented students and the DREAM Act), campus community development, campus social change, leadership development, service-learning, multicultural world views and LGBTQ student issues.  He earned his Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Organizational Leadership from Columbia University, Teachers College in 2003, a Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University in 1990 and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Scranton in 1986.

In his spare time he serves on the Alumni Board of Govornors of the University of Scranton, as Past-President of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Southern New Jersey, a National Delegate for the YMCA of the USA, a Board Member for the American Red Cross of Queens County and a District Commissioner and former National Vice President for Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.  He lives with his partner of eighteen years, Bil Leipold and his two dogs, Livingston (a Corgi) and Wanamassa (a Shih Tzu).  His greatest joy is his EIGHT Godchildren – Christian, Evan, Kevin, Nathan, Tara, Teresa, Remick and Matthew.

Paul Biedlingmaier, Jr. is a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments in Lansdale, PA. He graduated from The University in 1976 with a BS degree in Business Administration. From 1976 - 1995, he served with the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Centers in Washington, D.C., Wilmington, DE and Salt Lake City, UT, and Atlanta, GA as Chief, Medical Administration Service. In 1995, he joined Edward Jones Investments and became a limited partner in 2000.

In 1989, he assisted in the formation of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter and served as the chapter's first president. From 2006-2009, he served as Chair of The University's Royal Fund. He is currently a member of the President’s Business Council and the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter. He also serves as a guest speaker at the Kania School of Management.

His professional and civic activities include membership in the North Penn Chamber of Commerce, Lansdale Business Association and Finance Committee at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He also serves as a mentor and field trainer for the Philadelphia region of Edward Jones Investments. He previously served on the boards of the North Penn Senior Center and the Wellness Place for the cancer community. In 2010 & 2011, he was voted one of the top wealth managers by the Philadelphia Magazine.

University of Scranton family members include his grandfather, Dr. F.J. Biedlingmaier, "1916", his father, Dr. Paul Biedlingmaier, "1943", and his brother, Mark J. Biedlingmaier "1980".

Paul lives in Lansdale, PA and has three children, Paul III, Ryann Louise & Mark.

DAVID C. BLAKE, PhD, JD, is Vice President and Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer for Cedars-Sinai Health System where he oversees the integrity of CSHS’s business practices, including conflict of interest and industry relation issues.

He is formerly a vice president with Saint John’s Health Center, Santa Monica, where his responsibilities included mission integration, corporate compliance, clinical and research ethics, as well as human resources, community benefits, spiritual care, and medical social work. He is also the former Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Ethics of the St. Joseph Health System, Orange, California, and the former Director and founder of the Bioethics Institute of Saint John's Health Center and Loyola Marymount University. He was a department chair and professor of philosophy at Loyola Marymount and an adjunct professor of law at Loyola Law School.

He holds graduate degrees in philosophy from the Catholic University of America and a law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. He is the author of numerous articles on ethical and legal issues in health care and has presented to scores of healthcare organizations and medical staffs. 

David lives with his wife Sara and daughter Julia in Hermosa Beach, California.

Eric graduated from Seton Hall School of Law in 1999 and worked for several law firms before starting Diegnan & Brophy, LLC with a law school colleague in 2007.  While in law school, Eric served as an Editor of the Seton Hall Journal of Sports Law.  Eric is licensed to practice law in the State and Federal Courts of New York and New Jersey and will be sworn in to the United States Supreme Court Bar in June 2011.  Eric concentrates his practice primarily on business and commercial litigation, criminal law, and community association law.  He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and Monmouth County Bar Association.  Eric is currently the Democratic Municipal Chairman in Wall Township, New Jersey and has served as the municipal Prosecutor in Wall Township and as Special County Counsel for Monmouth County, New Jersey.  Eric is currently the immediate Past President of the Wall Township Chamber of Commerce.

John C. Cardone, MD is a cardiovascular surgeon and member of the Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgery group at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA

After earning his degree, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Scranton in 1982, Dr. Cardone then received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1986.  From 1986 to 1992, Dr. Cardone completed his General Surgery internship and residency at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ.  He finished his surgical training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA with a Residency in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in 1995.  

After spending 2 1/2 years in practice in Kansas City, Dr. Cardone returned to Pennsylvania as the Director of Cardiac Surgery at Westmoreland Regional Hospital for 7 years.  In April 2005, Dr. Cardone joined the cardiac surgical group at Forum Health in Youngstown, Ohio.  In additions to his clinical duties as a cardiac surgeon, in August 2007 Dr. Cardone was named Director of Graduate Medical Education for Forum Health where he oversaw 6 training programs with 100 residents in training.  In June 2009, Dr. Cardone was honored with the Surgical Teaching Award at Forum Health.  Dr. Cardone moved his clinical practice to St. Vincent Medical Center in Erie, PA in 2010.

Dr. Cardone is Board Certified in both General and Thoracic Surgery.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.  Dr. Cardone has published articles in regional and national professional journals.  He has both presented scientific papers and has co-moderated discussion forums at national professional meetings.  Dr. Cardone specializes in adult Cardiac Surgery; including coronary artery bypass and valve repair and replacement procedures.  Vascular and Endovascular procedures such as arterial bypass, stent and endovascular aneurysm repairs are also an integral part of Dr. Cardone’s clinical area.

Dr. Cardone has been married to his University of Scranton (1982) classmate, Melanie (Filipczyk) Cardone for 25 years and they are raising 2 children, Jennifer (age 18) and Michael (age 16).

John Gownley, a Scranton native, graduated from The University of Scranton with a bachelor's degree in Media and Information Technology and Art History in 2006. At The University of Scranton John was a Resident Assistant, Vice Chair of USPB, and Yearbook Editor-in-Chief. In the summer of 2005 John traveled to Duran, Ecuador through ISP. He stayed active in the student affairs division by serving on various boards, including University Review Board, President's Cabinet, College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board and the Student Publication's Board.

In June of 2006, John was hired as a freelance photographer with JLS Industries in New York City. In August, John sought full time employment with Deluxe Digital Industries in Moosic, Pa. He began as evening supervisor of the quality control division for DVD programming. After six months he was promoted to Team Lead of International Blu-ray Quality Control. In this role he led a new division of technology in a fast paced environment. Although he was very successful at Deluxe he still wanted to pursue a career in student affairs. In his job searches he came across an opportunity at Georgetown Preparatory in their boarding program. Even though the job was part-time he was optimistic that he would find a full time job.

After four months of interviewing, John was hired at Georgetown University as Coordinator of Student Services in the Academic Resource Center while still working at Prep in the evenings. In this new role he coordinated GU's undergraduate tutoring program, implemented accommodations for students with disabilities and advised students on academic progress. At the end of the school year John was offered a full time role in the boarding program and he accepted his new role as Freshman Housemaster for the 2009-2010 school year. Staying connected to his student affairs roots, he moderated the Resident Programming Board, Student Government Association and Yearbook.

Since graduation, John has stayed connected to his alma mater by serving as Treasurer of the Scranton Club of Washington D.C., and later President; regularly participating in Alumni Society initiatives and events, such as the 2008 Presidential Alumni Retreat which led to the creation of Shamrockin' Eve; and serving on the Alumni Board of Governors.

Currently, John resides in Bronx, NY where he works at Fordham University as a Campus Minister.

Frank G. McCartney has served as the Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission since May 1999. As executive director, he manages a $47 million annual operating budget and oversees a staff of roughly 350 full-time employees. McCartney also is directing the Commission's comprehensive $1.2 billion Capital Improvement Program to preserve, enhance, protect and better manage the agency's 20 bridges. 

He is the immediate past president of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA), the worldwide alliance of toll operators and associated industries that provides a forum for sharing knowledge and ideas to promote and enhance toll-financed transportation services. McCartney served as the organization's president in 2011.

He is a member of the E-ZPass Group's Executive Management Committee. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and a former commissioner for the Delaware River Port Authority. 

Prior to joining the Commission, McCartney managed an environmental specialty contracting company ranked by the Engineering News Record as among the top five in the country. 

A resident of Montgomery County, PA, he holds both a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Scranton. He is a member of the University of Scranton's Alumni Board of Governors. 

Dave McCormick has spent 32 years as a federal civilian employee. His federal career includes audit of some of the largest firms in the United States. Dave has also managed audit support to federal contract fraud cases, a concept which is sometimes referred to as forensic accounting.

Earning his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The University of Scranton in 1975 and a Master of Business Administration in Finance in 1979, Dave has continuously demonstrated a strong commitment to education. In the 1980s, he spent two years as president of a school board in the Binghamton area. He also served on the academic relations committee of the Institute of Management Accountants. He plans to begin teach classes at The University of Maryland in the near future.

In July of 2010, Dave completed his Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.  His recent doctoral study has been in the field of “servant leadership” which Dave distinguishes as involving  the leader’s focus on supporting, coaching, or enabling individuals to be the best he or she can be, as opposed to managing by commanding or controlling employees.

Dave currently resides in Centreville, Va.

Patrick graduated from the University of Scranton with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2006. While at Scranton, Patrick worked in the Campus Ministry office as the University Sacristan, was a member of the University swimming team, served as the President of the Middle Atlantic Conference Student Athletic Advisory Committee (was also a member of the University’s SAAC), was a retreat leader and member of the 2005 ISP trip to Kenya, and was a representative on the President’s Cabinet.

After graduating, Patrick worked at St. Joe’s Prep as a member of the Alumni Service Corps in the Campus Ministry office and as an assistant swimming coach. In 2007, after the completion of his year of service, Patrick moved on to work at The DePaul Catholic School, a Vincentian grade school in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, as Campus Minister. There, he proudly works side by side with eleven other University of Scranton alumni. Patrick has also continued to serve as assistant swimming coach at St. Joe’s Prep.

Mike is the Director of the Corporate Internal Audit, Government Contracts Compliance Group at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).  He has held a variety of other financial and regulatory positions at CSC over the past 20 + years.

Internal Audit practice includes US Government contracts Regulatory Compliance, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), anti-corruption, anti-bribery, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), UK Bribery Act, accounting/auditing oversight of the CSC Ethics reporting line.  

Prior work experience includes Controller, Financial Planning & Budgets, and Audit Senior at KPMG.

Mike, a native of Dickson City, Pennsylvania currently resides in Fairfax, Virginia

Residing with his wife, Sharon, in Great Bend, Susquehanna County, PA, Frank is admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and New York State, as well as the Federal Courts in numerous districts. He has been a sole practitioner in Great Bend for over 32 years.

Appointed by the Supreme Court of PA to its 16-member Disciplinary Board in 2003, he is currently in his second three-year term on that board. In June 2008, Frank will begin serving as Treasurer of the 29,000 member Pennsylvania Bar Association. He has previously held numerous positions in the PBA, including his service as Zone 5 Governor (Board of Governors), Chair of the Membership Committee, president of the Conference of County Bar Leaders and as a reviewing member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee. He is also the secretary/treasurer of the Susquehanna County Bar Association. An author of numerous law-related articles, Attorney O'Connor has often spoken to groups on legal ethics and lawyer discipline.

Frank has been active for many years in the Boy Scouts of America. He is an Eagle Scout, is currently an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 89, and has been awarded the "Silver Beaver" for his commitment to the Baden Powell Council, as well as the District Award of Merit for his work in the Dellahanna District.

An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. Lawrence Parish in Great Bend, he was also head of the parish finance committee for over ten years. He is a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Other activities include being founder of the Scranton Club of Greater Binghamton, a life member of the Great Bend Fire Co. and an attendant on the Great Bend/ Hallstead Volunteer Ambulance squad.

Frank and Sharon are the parents of two sons: John, a 2007 Scranton grad who is currently in medical school; and Brian, a current member of the University's class of 2010. They also have one daughter, Attorney Mary E. O'Connor, who is a graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville ('04) and Western New England School of Law ('07).

Heather Rowan-Kenyon, Ph.D. is a 1995 graduate of the University, where she was a Secondary Education/Social Studies major.  Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Higher Education program in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. Before coming to Boston College she was an Assistant Professor and coordinator of the Masters program in Student Affairs at the University of Virginia.  Dr. Rowan-Kenyon has over ten years experience working in student affairs, including serving as the Assistant Dean of Student Development at Mount St. Mary’s College (MD).  She received a Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland at College Park and holds an MA in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University.

Rowan-Kenyon’s research focuses on college access and student success. She has over 16 peer reviewed journal articles and her work has appeared in the journals such as the Journal of Higher Education, The Review of Higher Education, and the Journal of College Student Development. Currently she is exploring how to create a “college-staying” culture on campuses, particularly for low-income, first-generation college students.  She is on the editorial board of the Journal of College Student Development. She received the Emerging Scholar Award from the American College Personnel Association in 2008.

She lives in Boston with her husband Mark and son Andrew.

Mike Short graduated from The University of Scranton in 1999 with a B.S. in Marketing. He resides in Mendham, NJ with his wife Susanna Puntel Short, ’01 and newborn son, Grady Michael Short.

Mike owns two Allstate insurance agencies that provide multi-line insurance products to businesses, families, and individuals in the state of New Jersey. Mike is also Series 6 FINRA certified as a Personal Financial Representative and offers a range of financial products to his clients. 

In addition to his insurance and financial services background, Mike is a licensed NJ REALTOR. Mike previously served as Director of Service Programs at Scranton Preparatory School and was a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Brooklyn, NY.

During Mike’s tenure as an Allstate agency owner, he has won numerous company and industry awards. In 2010, Mike’s agency was the #6 Performing Allstate Agency Countrywide out of 12,500+ agencies. Mike’s additional awards include #1 Agency in NJ for Policy Retention (2010 and 2011), Allstate’s Inner Circle Elite (Top 1% of Agencies Countrywide), #2 Performing Allstate NJ Agency (2009 and 2010), Chairman’s Award, Honor Ring Award, President’s Conference Award, and 2011 Leader’s Forum Presenter. He has merited the distinction of Premier Service Agency since the award's creation in 2009. 

Mike enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, studying business / entrepreneurship trends, real estate investment, skiing, golf, SCUBA diving, photography, and technology.

Gene has served as an Assistant District Attorney for Lackawanna County since 1992.  In 1994, he was appointed Supervisor of the Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Unit and in January 2000 he was named First Assistant District Attorney.  He has also been appointed Special Deputy Attorney General to prosecute cases in Luzerne and Wyoming counties as well as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.  In his career, he has prosecuted 20 homicide cases including several capital murder trials.  Gene also serves on the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Medical/Legal Advisory Board for Child Abuse and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Scranton and Marywood University on the issues of child maltreatment and elder abuse.  He has also served as a faculty member for the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Institute’s Trial Advocacy for Prosecutors and the Widener University School Law Intensive Trial Advocacy Program as well as lecturing at the Pennsylvania State Police Training Academy in the area of Advanced Latent Fingerprint Examination.
