Our institutional commitment to diversity is grounded on the firm foundation of the Jesuit notion of social justice, on Cura Personalis (care for the whole person), on Magis (the pursuit of excellence) and on the strong belief that inclusion and interdependence are critical to the success of our University. In our striving to develop “men and women for and with others”, our University is committed to increased recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and to policies and measures that extend protections so that our campus is a nurturing environment that fosters innovation and a healthy sense of confidence and competition.

This commitment is demonstrated in the fact that our University is quickly developing into a culturally complex community of scholars (lately, posting increased cultural diversity in our faculty of approx. sixty percent and our student body of approx. sixteen percent) and by stronger conflict resolution policies. Other welcome changes have been the launching of a Women Studies program, two Ethnic Studies programs (Latin American and Asian Studies) and current investments into developing a third Ethnic Studies program; African Studies; to name a few. 

There is ample research that demonstrates that effective diversity management leads to improved individual and institutional performance. Research also shows that organizations that optimize contact diversity (building relationships among people from diverse backgrounds) and content diversity (materials, discourse and pedagogies from multiple perspectives) raises levels of performance and demonstrates growth.
